Spring Forward with International Cooking Classes at Kitchener Market – Enter to Win

Now is the time to spring forward and switch things up a bit.  Trying something new is a great way to start off this spring.  This week the Kitchener Market is hosting a lesson in THAI COOKING as part of their International Cooking Classes.  It is taking place on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at 6:30pm at the Upper Marketplace Kitchen inside the Kitchener Market.

Event Details:

Thai dishes are created using many different elements in a harmonious way to create a full dish. Although it sounds complex, the ingredients are simple and healthy! Come in to learn about all of the different components of Thai cuisine, and leave with recipes for some of your favorite meals from Thailand. This is a demonstration and not hands on, but you may be invited to come up with the chef if interested.

Looking Ahead to 2020 at the Kitchener Market

Every Saturday morning the Kitchener Farmer’s Market on the lower level fills with shoppers looking for locally produced food and the upper level has local artisans and small business start-ups. From Tuesday to Saturday the Upper Level Food Hall is open for Breakfast and Lunch plus there are events for kids on select Tuesdays and Saturdays, as well as every Thursday. There are so many things happening at the Kitchener Market and what we are looking forward to the return of the International Cooking Classes in the Upper Marketplace Kitchen.  We have learned so many skills and been inspired by these events and hope you will come and experience them as well.

Drayton Entertainment Takes on The Era of Electric Guitars and Mullets Galore

The 80s were a decade of full of screaming guitars and hair bands.  This era of music is captured well in Drayton Entertainment’s ROCK OF AGES.  The themes of Sex, Drugs and ROCK N ROLL get mixed up with a love story and those taking a stand during a time of change for the Los Angeles strip. Together these storylines combine to make up a musical spectacular you must see to believe!

 

From set design to the choregraphed dance moves, no detail was left behind when it came to setting the stage for this rocking performance.  It was a mix of a rock concert and the story of young love with each element having its own plot twists and humorous escapades.

Drayton Entertainment Got Wild Wild Wild with This Production

Wondering what we thought of ROCK OF AGES? Well both Diane and I have had watched this show before. Diane went to the first run of it in Toronto years ago where as I have only watched the film version of this musical.

Diane mentioned that the Toronto version did not have the comedic elements that this show did and she really appreciated how fun Drayton Entertainment made the show.  Being that I only watched the movie I had different plot lines in mind with different characters and enjoyed it being a fresh version of the story.

We appreciated this wild and crazy version of ROCK OF AGES and we think you will too! It will have you singing in your seat and maybe even dancing in the aisles! Are you ready to rock? Then get set for this hard rock nostalgia trip back to the 80s at Dunfield Theatre in Cambridge Ontario Canada.

Seeking the Spirits

Many of you know Theresa Caputo from her television show Long Island Medium, but did you know she also travels the world to connect live audiences with the spirits that watch over them?

Drayton Entertainment’s One for the Pot May Have You Seeing Double

When we arrived at Dunfield Theatre this week and noticed all the doorways on the stage, we knew this show would keep us on our toes. Much like It Runs In The Family that also included Eddie Glen and Amanda Leigh in the cast, this British Farce is truly a comedy of errors, mistaken identities, family lineage and fibs.  One for the Pot is set at the Hardcastle estate during an upscale party. As the party guests arrive you begin to question their reasons for being there.  As the party begins you learn about a sum of money that is about to be distributed, but during the party some unexpected but familiar faces arrive looking for their share of the pot.

 

Much like Drayton Entertainment’s Harvest you will see an actor playing multiple roles in this production, but you need to keep an eye on who is entering, exiting and hiding on stage to stay focused during the performance. 

“One For The Pot is one of the best farces ever written – it’s relentlessly funny, full of outrageous characters, and packed with clever plot twists that keep audiences guessing… and laughing,” says Alex Mustakas, Artistic Director of Drayton Entertainment.  “The show is executed with brilliant comic finesse by a terrific cast of performers – audiences are in for a treat.”

A quick synopsis of this musical farce is

“A murder throws English shoe salesman Harry Witherspoon into a chaotic adventure: taking his dead uncle on a vacation to Monte Carlo in exchange for a $6 million dollar inheritance”

Basing it on the movie trailer below we think it would make a great PARENTS’ NIGHT OUT or could be a hilarious time for families with older children (the KWLT is rating it PG-13 with adult content).

There Is Some Necessary Roughness In Drayton Entertainment’s Unnecessary Farce

Drayton Entertainment has always been known for their musical productions, but over the past few years they have become the go to company for their farce comedies as well.  With the successful productions of It Runs In The Family and Run For Your Wife , this late summer stage show of Unnecessary Farce is sure to be a hit especially with the inclusion of a hitman.

What To Expect At Unnecessary Farce

The stage is set in an adjoining motel room set up for an undercover police operation.  The two officers involved are wanting their sting to help them move up the rankings of the police force, and they won’t let their inexperience stop them.  The other cast of characters include the local mayor, his wife, his security guard, a newly appointed accountant and a legendary hitman.  Together this ensemble learns about a crime ring which is has been embezzling funds from the local government and using city hall as the means to launder the cash.  While this sounds like the plot to a serious crime story, this show will have you laughing out loud as you watch the actors stumble and bumble their way through the “almost” professional investigation.  There are one-liners, misinterpretations and some necessary roughness throughout Unnecessary Farce.  We think it would be a good choice to take in Unnecessary Farce on your next Parents’ Night Out.

This summer, Drayton Entertainment’s It Runs In The Family will have you running to the Drayton Festival Theatre to see this British Farce.  It is a relief from the heat by being set at Christmastime, a time when the hospital has a lot of hustle bustle going on.  Not only are the characters in this show dealing with patients, a seminar and the hospital’s annual Christmas panto, one doctor is dealing with the news that he fathered a child 18 years ago.  After receiving the news that his affair with a nurse has made him an instant Dad to an emotionally unstable son, he also learns that the boy is searching the hospital halls for him.  In order to keep his past indiscretions under wraps while preparing for the biggest speech of his career, he enlists the help of a longtime friend and fellow doctor help to cover up what is going on.  As the play unfolds, the stories they tell the hospital staff, family members and even the police sergeant get stretched, and the plot thickens as each character gets involved. 

Parents’ Nigh Out

We think this comedy would make a great Parents’ Night Out.  You will be beside yourself with the facetious wit, sarcastic remarks, comedic prat falls and slapstick humour that happens throughout the show.  Just like Drayton Entertainment’s farce Run For Your Wife, this year’s It Runs In The Family will help you see the funny side of family matters.

It Runs in the Family is on stage at the Drayton Festival Theatre through August 6. Tickets are $44 for Adults and $26 for Youth under 20 years of age. Tickets for groups of 20 or more are $36. HST is applicable to all ticket prices.
