With Hurricane Sandy heading our way chances are the Halloween Trick or Treating may be rained out.

Carve, Solder, Hack! Hacky Halloween returns this year at THEMUSEUM! Carve a pumpkin and learn to solder a programmable flickering light circuit for Halloween, then come to Kwartzlab in November to learn how to hack your circuit! It's a 'Bavarian Villiage" in downtown Kitchener with FREE live entertainment on the Children's Stage. Check out the displays and activities, excellent food and beverages, information, souvenirs and a Bier Garten. Fun for the whole family. The Platz is open daily through the festival.

OktoberFEAST, a celebration of food and food trucks.
When: Saturday, Oct. 6 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Waterloo Public Square
OktoberFEAST is scheduled to take place during the first weekend of Oktoberfest, Kitchener-Waterloo’s popular Bavarian festival. The event, which is sponsored by the City of Waterloo will showcase several food truck vendors, including:

· Hula Girl Espresso Truck, serving coffee/tea and baked goods

· Blue Donkey Streatery, serving gyros, feta fries and ouzo mayo calamari

· Southern Ontario Smoked BBQ, serving pulled pork and ribs

· Papa’s Gourmet, serving smoked meat, chicken or beef shawarma

· Manual Labour Coffee, serving cookies and espressos

· Sweetness Inc., serving cupcakes and sweet pops

· Busters Sea Cove, serving fish tacos, shrimp tacos and lobster rolls

· Dave’s Food Truck, serving hamburgers and cut fries

· Dirty South, serving pulled pork, smoked chicken and hickory smoked pork
Visitors will also enjoy musical entertainment and Pandora’s Sox will perform puppet shows on Saturday at 6 p.m. and again on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
OktoberFEAST will run rain or shine and admission is free for the entire family to enjoy, with the exception of food purchases.

8th Annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day and Family FunFest

Including "Firefighter Combat Challenge", demos of firefighters performing vehicle extrication with ‘jaws of life’, new & antique fire/emergency apparatus, TimBits, coffee, hot chocolate, and a breakfast BBQ (for donation) and children’s entertainment.
At 12:30, the Ceremonial Memorial Parade kicks off, featuring new and antique fire trucks, Pipes & Drums bands (from Toronto and Kitchener Fire), the Red Knights Motorcycle Club and many more.
Parade maps and details are online at www.kitchenerfirefighters.ca. A public memorial service will be held, at 1 pm, honouring all fallen firefighters/emergency workers, including 14 from the Kitchener Fire Department.

The Food Bank of Waterloo Region will be one of the newest contenders in the cross-Canada food drive.
Beginning Thursday October 11th at 6pm, competing cities have 48 hours to collect the greatest amount of food they possibly can. Thousands will benefit from this giant competition.
