Juneyt - KW People Doing Big Things

Last weekend I was thrilled to attend the launch of Juynet's Fuego!  It was an amazing concert and with his permission I have some great clips of the concert.

Creating a Community

We are so lucky to have such a fantastic artist here in KW.  Juneyt is so talented and is a big part of the KW Community.  We often run into him at events and he is always there to support others as well.
Earlier this month he surprised us with a donation at our Movember Kids KW event at Kitchener Market. He had been there performing flamenco music which we always love hearing and that day it was even more special because of this special donation.

Fuego is Fire

Literally, Fuego means fire, but the the event was fire! In fact, the whole experience was lit!

The concert had performances with El Turco, then as part of Turk and the Hobbits.  There was even a flamenco dancer in the mix. Plus there were solo performances by Junyet that were accompanied by heartfelt stories about each song. You can see the variety of music by watching the videos below.

This might have been my favorite moment of the concert.  I had never heard him perform this song before and now it may become a frequent request.

Wreck It Ralph Blasts to The Future in Ralph Breaks the Internet and So Does Walt Disney Studios - Review and Preview

We'll start with the Disclaimer – Yes, we did receive complimentary invite to the event, but this just means I can tell you all about the films coming from Disney!

For those that don’t already know, I am a big fan of Vanellope, also known as “the glitch” from Wreck It Ralph as you can tell by my pic below.

So I was thrilled to attend this media event put on by Walt Disney Studios Canada.

Ralph Connects to The Internet

Fans of the first Wreck It Ralph film will remember all the 80s video game references in the movie and while that is how Ralph Breaks the Internet begins, it is not long until Ralph and his best friend Vanellope are blasted into the future through the information highway. In order to save Vanellope’s game they start an online search for the Sugar Rush steering wheel which brings them to other web places like BuzzTube and Slaughter Race. While Vanellope becomes obsessed with Slaughter Race, Ralph seems to thrive as the newest buzz-worthy icon at BuzzTube.  In hopes of getting the part for Vanellope’s game in time to save it, their adventures take them to familiar internet sources like eBay, Oh My Disney and into the dark web where simple Pop Up Ads can dabble in the world of viruses.

What I really liked about this funny family friendly film is that there wasn’t one true villain from beginning to end.  Each character showed their strengths and weaknesses, displayed as courage or vulnerabilities.  It also explains how over time people change and so do friendships and the key to these ever-changing relationships is how we stay connected to one another.  So, while this film shows how Ralph Breaks the Internet both in the hardwired way and the viral video way, it is more about how he connects to the internet to evolve himself and his friendship with Vanellope. It was a great film and I hope you will take your whole family to see it!

To Infinity and Beyond with Walt Disney Studios

Prior to the screening of Ralph Breaks the Internet, Walt Disney Studios Canada presented some trailers and a sneak peak scene of an upcoming feature film (more on that below).  They also revealed their upcoming film release timeline which included everything from Toy Story 4 to an unnamed Marvel Studios film which may very well be the answer to Infinity Wars. Whether you are excited for more FROZEN or STAR WARS or wondering when Captain Marvel arrives or when Mary Poppins Returns you can find it all in the timeline below.

As mentioned, we also had a chance to see a scene from Mary Poppins Returns featuring a musical number by Lin-Manuel Miranda.  He plays Jack the lamplighter in the film and I had a chance to interact with a lamplighter at the pop-up photo booth.

Get Set for All of the Walt Disney Feature Films

It looks like Walt Disney Studios has something for everyone with their upcoming feature film selection.

Which of these films are you excited to see? Leave a comment and let me know!  Wanting to see what I thought of another Disney film? Check out my review of Disney’s Christopher Robin.

Sights, Sounds and Snow for This Year’s Gift of Lights KW @ Bingemans – Enter To Win

On November 15th we continued our Christmas tradition by attending the Bingemans Gift Of Lights Media Event.  This year we were greeted by sights, sounds and a whole lot of snow! In fact, it was a blizzard! While that would cancel many outdoor activities, it created the best backdrop for this year’s event.  The twinkling lights and the sparkly snowflakes seem to dance all around the vehicle as if they could hear Christmas Carols on the car radio.

Gift of Lights KW at Bingemans Was Lit

This year’s light show included Diane’s favourite toppling penguins, plus some new tumbling teddy bears!
My favourite this year was seeing BUDDY THE ELF lit up amongst some of his elf friends.

As an added attraction, they have added a second tunnel this year to really light things up!
To give you an idea of what last year’s Gift of Lights entailed, watch the video below

An Event for Everyone

This year The Gift of Lights KW includes many choices for how you want to enjoy the lights including a WALK ONLY NIGHT on December 2, 2018 from 5pm-9pm
The remaining days for this year’s event let you enjoy the light show while you keep warm and toasty inside the comfort of your own vehicle, which can be a relief to many seniors and those with accessibility concerns.  We believe this makes the Gift of Lights an event for everyone!

Bask in the Glow of the Glittering Lights

You will want to experience the Gift of Lights first hand.  Grab your family, friends or co-workers and descend upon the winding trail of this display all while enjoying the Christmas music being played on your vehicle’s radio and get a chance to bask in the glow of this glittering light show. The Gift of Lights is now open evenings until January 5, 2019 and you can save on tickets by purchasing them online.

Gift of Lights Ticket Info
This year a portion of the proceeds will benefit THE GRAND RIVER HOSPITAL FOUNDATION so know that your ticket purchase is helping to fund a local organization.
Tickets are $20 + tax for a single vehicle (up to 8 passengers) at the gate, but you can SAVE by purchasing your tickets online at http://www.bingemans.com/gift-of-lights.php  then scrolling down as the page loads to see all the options.

Disney’s Christopher Robin Review – Enter To Win

We'll start with the Disclaimer – Yes, we did receive a complimentary copy of this film, but this just means we're able to offer you a chance to win a copy too! Enter the contest at the end of this post!

It’s Always A Sunny Day When Christopher Robin Comes to Play

The story of Disney’s Christopher Robin begins in the Hundred-Acre Woods where Winnie The Pooh and his friends Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, Rabbit, Kanga and Roo are awaiting the arrival of a young Christopher Robin.  Once Christopher Robin arrives the party begins on that sunny day, but soon the mood changes as Christopher Robin is preparing to leave for boarding school.  While he is sure that he will never forget his friends, Winnie The Pooh and his friends are not so sure.

The Fog Comes Rolling In

As time passes you learn the hardships that Christopher Robin has to deal with while away from his friends.  As he ages and changes he becomes lost in fog and struggles with hard decisions.  This affects those in the Hundred Acre Woods as well.  Winnie the Pooh wakes up to very foggy day where he cannot find his friends and he to has lost his way.  He knows the only person that can fix the situation is his hero, and so the silly old bear begins his adventure to search for Christopher Robin.  To Winnie The Pooh’s dismay Christopher Robin has let go of his childhood ways and is now spending his days avoiding a terrible Woozel.

To see how the story unfolds be sure to get your own copy of Disney’s Christopher Robin now available on Disney DVD and BluRay.  Then us know if you enjoyed this walk down memory lane as much as we did.

Canada’s Connection to Winnie The Pooh

Many of us grew up with the Heritage Minute story of Winnie The Pooh but that was just the beginning! Did you know that Disney’s Christopher Robin is 16th feature film inspired by A.A. Milne’s tales of Winnie The Pooh and Christopher Robin? Click the image below to get all the facts

This year Lightning Banjo Productions is bringing THE VELVETEEN RABBIT to the stage and they have been busy getting ready for this sensational seasonal play.

The tale of stuffed bunny originally published in 1922 has been re-imagined in so many ways over time and we cannot wait to see it performed at the Registry Theatre this December. For those unfamiliar with the story it begins with a toy bunny Christmas present which makes it the perfect start to this holiday season.
The Velveteen Rabbit becomes a special toy for the little girl that lives in the nursery, but when illness strikes the bunny's bravery is tested. It seems that all hope may be lost, but that, as all boys and girls know, is when the very best magic can happen.
We have been to Lightning Banjo Productions performances in the past and because their family friendly plays are so delightful the tickets go very quickly! Be sure to grab your tickets before they are gone!

JoJo Mason

JoJo's music is about having fun, appreciating life and sharing stories. It is passionately country, but with no fear of a deep groove, fresh lyric or original melody. He will charm you with his personality, wow you with his beat boxing, earn your respect with his work ethic, inspire you with his character and compassion, elicit a smile with his message but most importantly, JoJo will sweep you off your feet with his voice. From a moonshine slinging, shower singing prairie boy to Canada’s next country music sensation.
