Simpler Times with Complicated Relationships are Presented by Drayton Entertainment's On Golden Pond

Being a kid in the 80s means I was very familiar with the movie On Golden Pond.  It was a box office hit and won Academy Awards for acting, but it wasn't until recently that I learned that the film was adapted from a play.  Last night I had the opportunity to attend the opening of On Golden Pond at Drayton Entertainment's Hamilton Family Theatre in Cambridge Ontario and watch it portrayed on stage.

It was great to return to the Hamilton Family Theatre and to learn more about the Canadian Service Medal won by Drayton Entertainment's Artistic Director Alex Mustakas and his continuing work in the performing arts.

Settling in On Golden Pond

The set was full of rustic charm with collections of books, generational furniture, and a spot just for fishing gear. This transported you to a time before cell phones and the internet was invented.  There was even a rotary telephone used by the main characters of the play.  This summer home for retired couple Norman and Ethel Thaler was a simple backdrop for some complicated relationships.

It is a play about generations and their perspectives. It finds its way from the beginning of summer full of frustration to what could become the end of an era if things don't change. By summer's end, feelings change from harsh to healing, and new friendships are formed but the route taken is unexpected by all.

Ethel and Norman Thayer are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the 48th year for some much-needed rest and relaxation. Their delightful summer routine is thrown for a loop when their daughter Chelsea visits for her father's 80th birthday, bringing her boyfriend Bill and his teenage son in tow. After an unexpected relationship blooms, fraught family dynamics come to the forefront as they are forced to navigate the generation gap through zippy, tart-tongued observations on fishing, literature, slang, marriage ... and their own mortality.
Summer Theatre Season On Golden Pond

This summer you too can spend some time ON GOLDEN POND with a visit to the Hamilton Family Theatre.

On Golden Pond is on stage from July 20 to August 6 at the Hamilton Family Theatre Cambridge. Regular performance tickets are $53 for adults, $32 for youth under 20 years of age and $43 for groups of 20 or more and select Discount Dates. HST is applicable to all ticket prices. Tickets may be purchased in person at any Drayton Entertainment Box Office, by calling the Box Office at 519-621-8000 or toll free at 1-855-drayton (372-9866), or online at www.draytonentertainment.com

Glass Tiger and Big Wreck in Kitchener For ONTour #Ontario150

As many of our readers know, I love seeing live music and supporting Canadian bands and solo artists.  This began many years ago when I went to my first outdoor music festival in high school to see GLASS TIGER.  It was at THE SOUNDS OF SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL in Waterloo Park. It seems that Glass Tiger began something with me that stuck throughout the years. Decades later Alan Frew became a staple in our house with his theme for the Toronto Maple Leafs and in 2015 when I learned the news about my Father’s Cancer it was Alan Frew that I connected with on Facebook. He has suffered a stroke and the 2 of us had a bit of back and forth about hospitals, depression and keeping a positive outlook. Flash forward two years later and hear I am again watching Glass Tiger at an outdoor concert.

Glass Tiger was one of two bands I was there to see.  The other being BIG WRECK. I remember seeing BIG WRECK at the 1st Big Music Fest in 2014 along with some other amazing acts!  Knowing that they were going to be the headliner for the ONTour stop in Kitchener doubled my enthusiasm to attend this outdoor concert.

Getting a chance to see Canadian bands perform live is something I am always grateful for!

Did you attend the ONTour concert at Kitchener City Hall or are you attending one of the upcoming shows? Let us know in the comments! We always want to hear from our readers and know what interests they have as well.

Virginia To Vegas #UTOPIANTOUR Kick Off In #KWAWESOME

As many of you know we are love attending concerts, especially ones by Canadian Artists. This one was extra special as it was a show by an artist from the area. This week we attended the Virginia To Vegas show which is his first time as a headliner for a concert tour. The #UTOPIANTOUR was kicked off at Maxwell’s in Waterloo Ontario and he treated this concert as a homecoming to Southwestern Ontario. To get a glimpse of what went on, check out the facebook live and youtube videos below.

By the way, the irony is not lost on me that LIGHTS OUT is the best lit video of the mix.

As mentioned in the last video, we did stick around for a meet and greet with both VIRGINIA TO VEGAS and the opening band REPARTEE.

Looking for information about the Virginia To Vegas and/or the Utopian Tour? Head to the website http://www.virginiatovegas.com for more information.

Hedley, Carly Rae Jepsen And Francesco Yates Stop By Kitchener TO SAY HELLO! #HelloWorldTourKitchener Media Coverage

Last night I had the opportunity to see performances by HEDLEY, CARLY RAE JEPSEN and FRANCESCO YATES at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex here in Kitchener Ontario courtesy of LIVE NATION.  While all three of these fantastic Canadian artists have performed in the area before, combined they brought their great energy and talent to the filled arena.

Here's what happened at the #HelloWorldTourKitchener stop.

Francesco Yates Brought The Flair

The stylistic sounds of Francesco Yates fired up the audience as the opening act and created a buzz that reached the audience for the stage to the stands.

Carly Rae Jepsen Brought The Style

Carly Rae Jepsen brought her signature style to the stage! We're not talking just patriotic fashion.

Her vocal stylings and "sing with me" style had the crowd singing and dancing to her new songs as well as her hits like CALL ME MAYBE and GOOD TIME. Being the only female on this tour, Carly Rae Jepsen showed that she can run with the boys any day.

Hedley Brought Down The House

Hedley brings new meaning to the term taking it up a notch.  Throughout their concert they repeatedly brought the audience to their feet asking "Do You Feel Like Dancing"?  How could anyone refuse that offer?

Celebrating Canadian Music At The #BigSummerBash

Meeting Shawn Hook After The Show.

As the way most things happen with me, all of this happened by chance. Last Thursday I decided to go to the Furious 7 Outdoor Movie in Waterloo Park. Before the movie I entered a draw at the KOOL FM booth. As the film was about to start they announced that I had won tickets to the #BigSummerBash at Maxwells Music House!  I was excited to go as I haven't been to their new venue yet.  The last concert I went to at Maxwells was the Jesse Labelle's Big Picture Project, so it was time to check out some great CANADIAN talent at the new venue.

Spotlight On Canadian Artists

When the day of the show arrived I was thrilled to see that Shawn Hook had been retweeting my tweets and they were now on his website. What a way to get the audience pumped up for the show!

The Big Summer Bash opened with Ria Mae performing an acoustic set,

including her single CLOTHES OFF

She even mentioned that she loves the #kwawesome hashtag! How cool is that?

Next to take the stage was Coleman Hell.  They got the crowd fired up!

They mentioned that "There must be something in the water, in Waterloo"

 -get the joke now?
After that Kool FM's Andrew Gerrior took the stage to add a bit of comic relief.(Thanks again for the tickets Kool FM)

Then Francesco Yates took the stage with a powerful performance and a couple of cover tunes thrown in the mix.

Then I spied Shawn Hook preparing for his performance.

Shortly after I received word that one of friends at the show had to leave because of an emergency. It was unfortunate as she was really looking forward to hearing Shawn Hook perform. So of course  I went into picture taking and video recording overload.  I wanted my friend to feel like she was able to be there for the full performance!

More Pics At The Bottom Of This Post

(sorry about the orientation on this top video I was in picture taking mode and quickly changed to video)

Shawn Hook blew everyone away with his performance and was so gracious and humble about everyone there supporting Canadian music.  He even went out of his way to meet everyone after the show.
So that's when this happened

All the artists were great and I suggest you follow them on twitter!
@Shawn_Hook @colemanhell @riaisawake @FrancescoYates
That is another great way to show Canadian Musicians your support!

Update - Look what I found on Shawn Hook's website

Music And Passion Were Always In Fashion With Lola Jeans - Enter To Win

I'll start with the Disclaimer - Yes I did receive a complimentary pair of jeans, but this just means I'm able to offer you a chance win a pair too! Enter the contest at the end of this post!
I'm taking a few artistic liberties with the lyrics of Barry Manilow's Copacabana, but from now on I will be singing.....
My Jeans Are Named Lola!
and just like Barry said ...... Music And Passion Were Always In Fashion - especially when it comes to Lola Jeans

Why Lola Jeans?

Wondering what makes Lola Jeans so special? For starters the Lola Jeans brand empowers women look and feel their best.

Read their fashion story at http://lolajeans.ca/en/our-story.  Additionally they are HUGE supporters in the fight against breast cancer.  They have already donated over $50K to The Breast Cancer Foundation. Oh and then there's the JEANS!!!!!!!

Lola Jeans is all about demin made to fit! Their 4-way stretch demin comes in a variety of styles.
Which is important if you need to bust out some of the dance moves featured in the video above ;)

I chose the KRISTINE style in Rinse Blue and I have to say one of the features I love best about them is the extra demin material on the inside of the zipper flap! No worry about catches or snags and that is important!

No matter what you plan to do in your Lola Jeans you can ensure that you will look and feel great in them!

Need more info about Lola Jeans?
Be sure to check out their social feeds!

Plus be sure to watch for my Instagram Outfit Of The Day #OOTD in Lola Jeans!

Sorry I'm Canadian Review

As many of my readers know, I LOVE living in KW, better known as Kitchener Waterloo which is located in The Region Of Waterloo in Ontario Canada.  I really feel fortune to live in such a great country and do my best to show my appreciation for this great land of ours! Being Canadian means different things to everyone, but I often find the funny in being Canadian

As we arrived we could see the Dunfield Theatre was decked out for the occasion with Canadian Flags hanging in the windows. Then we were greated by Constable Archibald F. Inkster otherwise known in KW as Neil Aitchison. The comedy began right in the lobby!
