Celebrate Christmas with an American Underdog - Run of Engagement Ticket Giveaway

We'll start with the Disclaimer - Yes, we did receive complimentary tickets to the advance screening of this film, but this just means we're able to offer you a chance to win a pair of tickets too (for Run of Engagement)! Enter the contest at the end of this post.

Football movies are some of my favourites, especially the ones that are based on True Life events.  Some of my all-time faves are Remember the Titans, Rudy and The Blind Side.  This Christmas I will have another one to add to my list.  The story of Kurt Warner is coming to the big screen in the film American Underdog.  This sports biography will inspire you just as Kurt did for so many, as he rose to the challenge to make it to the NFL after several setbacks. Now you can relive the experience of Kurt Warner's sports career and all the accolades bestowed on him in American Underdog which opens in theatres on Christmas Day.

AMERICAN UNDERDOG tells the inspirational true story of Kurt Warner (Zachary Levi – SHAZAM!, Chuck), who went from a stock boy at a grocery store to a two-time NFL MVP, Super Bowl champion, and Hall of Fame quarterback. The film centers on Warner’s unique story and years of challenges and setbacks that could have derailed his aspirations to become an NFL player – but just when his dreams seemed all but out of reach, it is only with the support of his wife, Brenda (Academy Award® winner Anna Paquin – THE PIANO), and the encouragement of his family, coaches, and teammates that Warner perseveres and finds the strength to show the world the champion that he already is inside. AMERICAN UNDERDOG is an uplifting story that demonstrates anything is possible when you have faith, family, and determination.

Ron's Gone Wrong is a Film that Gets it Right

We'll start with the Disclaimer – Yes, we did receive complimentary tickets to the advance screening of this movie, but this just means we're able to give you our opinion of the film.

In this brand new animated film, we come to learn that the Pudowski is struggling, They have a warehouse of novelty items that are not selling and they are usually hacking the grid to get electricity. This takes a toll on young Barney Pudowski. He is not very social with the other kids at Nonsuch Middle School, and when the B. Bot craze takes over he realizes his social status both online and offline won't improve unless he has B.Bot of his own. While the other kids are live-streaming, gaining likes and having video-game battles through their B. Bots, Barney gets sequestered to the Buddy Bench each recess and he finds it humiliating. When his family learns of the teasing that Barney is receiving, they find their own way to get B. Bot for Barney.  The problem is there is something a little off with this B. Bot.

“Ron’s Gone Wrong” is the story of Barney, a socially awkward middle-schooler and Ron, his new walking, talking, digitally-connected device, which is supposed to be his “Best Friend out of the Box.” Ron’s hilarious malfunctions set against the backdrop of the social media age, launch them into an action-packed journey in which boy and robot come to terms with the wonderful messiness of true friendship. “Ron’s Gone Wrong” features the voices of Zach Galifianakis, Jack Dylan Grazer, Olivia Colman, Ed Helms, Justice Smith, Rob Delaney, Kylie Cantrall, Ricardo Hurtado, Marcus Scribner, Thomas Barbusca.

We think this is a great film for families. It has funny moments, with lessons mixed in along the way. It touches on topics like data privacy, economic status, and empathy for others. Each lesson is learned through the lens of friendship and how Barney teaches Ron his B. Bot to be his friend but then Ron gets it right when it comes to how Barney should approach friendship as well. Ron's Gone Wrong is sure to have you talking about the film and your own family values when it comes to screen time, encouraging individuality and treatment of others.

Ron's Gone Wrong will be released in theatres on October 22, 2021 and we hope after seeing it you will share your thoughts on the film in the comments!

#IStillBelieve is a True Love Story with a Canadian Connection – Enter to Win

We'll start with the Disclaimer - Yes, we did receive complimentary passes, but this just means we're able to offer you a chance to win a pair of passes too! Enter the contest at the end of this post

Last year I remember seeing the trailer below for I Still Believe. As it began, I thought I was looking at a film that would be similar to A Star Is Born, but by the 30-second mark, I realized this was a different story altogether.

This film was based on a true story.  A story about love in the face of hardship and devotion despite all circumstances. That is what makes it a True Story, a Love Story, and a True Love Story.

The movie chronicles the life of Jeremy Camp, played by Riverdale’s K.J. Apa, and his wife Melissa, portrayed by Britt Robertson. Many of our readers will remember Britt Robertston from Tomorrowland.

Also starring in I Still Believe is Academy Award Nominee and Emmy winner Gary Sinise, but there is one more familiar face that may surprise you (click the twitter link below to see)

The amazing @GarySinise plays the real-life dad of @JeremyCamp in #IStillBelieve. Check out Gary talking about his screen son @KJ_Apa and his real-life family. pic.twitter.com/bOe2OYuN00

Did you see her yet? Canadian singer and songwriter Shania Twain is included in this star-studded cast.  Seeing Shania Twain in an acting role will be new for me, but I am looking forward to seeing how she tackles the role of Jeremy’s mom.

A new 2020 trailer for I Still Believe has been released and I was just as touched by it as I was by the one from last summer.

Celebrate Earth Week with Disneynature’s BORN IN CHINA – Enter To Win Passes To The Toronto Advance Screening

We'll start with the Disclaimer – Yes, we did receive complimentary tickets as a giveaway to the advance screening! Enter the contest at the end of this post!

Spring is finally in the air and April means it’s time to think about Earth Day and Earth Week.  These annual events get people thinking about the environment and ways to be earth-friendly.  This year Disneynature is releasing BORN IN CHINA on Earth Day and if you go to see it the first week of its release you will be helping to protect Pandas and Snow Leopards.

BORN IN CHINA: Narrated by John Krasinski (“13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi,” “The Office,” “Amazon’s “Jack Ryan”), Disneynature's new True Life Adventure film “Born In China” takes an epic journey into the wilds of China where few people have ever ventured. Following the stories of three animal families, the film transports audiences to some of the most extreme environments on Earth to witness some of the most intimate moments ever captured in a nature film. A doting panda bear mother guides her growing baby as she begins to explore and seek independence. A two-year-old golden monkey who feels displaced by his new baby sister joins up with a group of free-spirited outcasts. And a mother snow leopard—an elusive animal rarely caught on camera—faces the very real drama of raising her two cubs in one of the harshest and most unforgiving environments on the planet. Featuring stunning, never-before-seen imagery, the film navigates China’s vast terrain—from the frigid mountains to the heart of the bamboo forest—on the wings of red-crowned cranes, seamlessly tying the extraordinary tales together. Opening in theatres on April 21, 2017, “Born in China” is directed by accomplished Chinese filmmaker Lu Chuan, and produced by Disney’s Roy Conli and renowned nature filmmakers Brian Leith and Phil Chapman.

Disney's Zootopia - Advance Screening Review

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to attend an advance screening of Disney's Zootopia and I can't wait to tell you all about it! Don't worry there are no spoilers here, only reasons why you need to see this fantastic film.

#CanadaZelfie #Zelfie

Reasons To Why You Need To See Disney's Zootopia

Much like the film Wall-E, DISNEY'S ZOOTOPIA is a reflection of our society and filled with many social messages about where we are headed and what we should be doing to keep our world a peaceful place to live.  A few messages brought to the forefront of the film are

• Try Everything. Even if it doesn't work out the first time keep at it
• Encourage others. Don't put limitations on what they should do
• Bullying is wrong. What may make someone act out now, could make them ashamed of it later in life
• Don't judge a book by the cover is the biggest message in this film. Make sure to give everyone a fair shake and they could become someone very important in your life

Another reason to see this film is the amazing animation. Be sure to see this movie in 3D. When you first see the City of Zootopia you suddenly feel immersed in the surroundings.  The way they brought the city to life is a great theatrical achievement.

Also if you are Canadian you will recognize Peter Moosebridge as being voice by famous Canadian news anchor Peter Mansbridge.

The final reason, and the reason why people go to the movies is, this film is very entertaining.  The characters are on point with their reactions to the situations, it has a great story, it has lots of funny moments and a few serious ones to make the audience think about how they can grow as people.

We suggest taking the whole family to see ZOOTOPIA this weekend! If you can't make it this weekend then be sure to make it part of your March Break plans.

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia,” a comedy-adventure directed by Byron Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”) and Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “The Simpsons”) and co-directed by Jared Bush (“Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero”), opens in theatres on March 4, 2016.

Finding Your Inner Joy (or Anger, Sadness, Fear or Disgust) With Disney's Inside Out - Enter To Win

...the sunshine and warm weather always call for celebration!  Which is why we are thrilled to giveaway a family 4 pack of tickets to the advanced screening of Disney's Inside Out! This JOYUS event will take place Saturday June 13 at 10am at Galaxy Cinemas Conestoga Mall Waterloo.

Here is a little more about the film

Do you ever look at someone and wonder what is going on inside their head? Disney•Pixar’s original new film "Inside Out" ventures inside the mind to find out.

Based in Headquarters, the control center inside 11-year-old Riley’s mind, five Emotions are hard at work, led by lighthearted optimist Joy (voice of Amy Poehler), whose mission is to make sure Riley stays happy. Fear (voice of Bill Hader) heads up safety, Anger (voice of Lewis Black) ensures all is fair and Disgust (voice of Mindy Kaling) prevents Riley from getting poisoned—both physically and socially. Sadness (voice of Phyllis Smith) isn’t exactly sure what her role is, and frankly, neither is anyone else.

UPDATE

Inside Out Review

Inside Out proves that life is an emotional rollercoaster.  This film shows how our feelings make us react to the ups and downs of life.  The characters in Riley's head make her show her inner most feelings about moving to a new place, attending a new school, making new friends and finding interest in boys.  Each of the situations can by over reacted to if your emotions aren't kept in check.  As Riley matures in the film so do the characters inside her head.

Review - Our Take On TOMORROWLAND

Travelling Through Time In TOMORROWLAND

As mentioned in our TAKE ME TO TOMORROWLAND post, Tomorrowland at Walt Disney World holds a special place in my heart. It was amazing to see this popular Disney World attraction come to life on the big screen. Starting at the World's Fair (where Tomorrowland was launched by Walt Disney) and letting us know IT'S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL this film travelled both backward and forward through time, while inspiring and exciting the audience.

The social messages in this movie reminded me of Disney Pixar's WALL-E and it's premise to inspire others to make changes now in order to create a better future.  The film itself was like seeing a next level version of Walt Disney World's Tomorrowland Park. Everything from monorails to smiling friendly faces ready to create a bold new futuristic world, and while the It's A Small World ride has an impact at the beginning of the movie, the ending of the film brings the memorable song full circle.

We suggest this film for families with older tweens and teens.

Did You Take The Trip To Tomorrowland?

Let us know your review of Disney's Tomorrowland in the comments! Below is a brief description of the film courtesty of Walt Disney Studios Canada.

Tomorrowland

From Disney comes two-time Oscar® winner Brad Bird’s riveting, mystery adventure “Tomorrowland,” starring Academy Award® winner George Clooney. Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.

Featuring a screenplay by “Lost” writer and co-creator Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird, from a story by Lindelof & Bird & Jeff Jensen, “Tomorrowland” promises to take audiences on a thrill ride of nonstop adventures through new dimensions that have only been dreamed of.

The Classic Tale Of Cinderella Becomes A Live Action Film

The story of “Cinderella” follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new Stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella’s father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family.

Soon, she is forced to become their servant, disrespected, covered in ashes and spitefully renamed Cinderella. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella will not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her, and she continues to remain positive, determined to honour her mother’s dying words and to “have courage and be kind.”

When Ella meets a dashing stranger in the woods, unaware that he is really the Prince (Richard Madden) and not merely Kit, an apprentice at the palace, she believes she has finally found a kindred soul. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the King (Derek Jacobi) summons all maidens in the kingdom to attend a royal ball at the palace, raising Ella’s hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit. Alas, her Stepmother forbids her to attend and callously destroys her dress.

Meanwhile, the calculating Grand Duke (Stellan Skarsgård) devises a plan to thwart the Prince’s hopes of reuniting with Ella and enlists the support of the devious Stepmother. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand. Soon, a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham Carter) steps forward and, armed with a pumpkin, a few mice and a magic wand, changes Cinderella’s life forever.
