MOVEMBER KW MEDIA ADVISORY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DIANE MORGAN AND LISA MCDONALD BECOME THE CO-CHAIRS OF THE MOVEMBER KW COMMITTEE.
For several years now Diane Morgan and Lisa McDonald been part of the MOVEMBER KW Committee. The yearly Movember Campaign has changed quite a bit in the time they came on board to raise awareness about MOVEMBER. For the past seven years they have supported Movember in the form of events and social media coverage to bring attention to Prostate Cancer, Testicular Cancer, Physical Health, Mental Health and Suicide Prevention. While many think that only men that can grow moustaches can participate in Movember, Diane and Lisa have been part of the Movember KW campaign since its inception and do their part to show that everyone, no matter their age or gender, can be involved with Movember. To prove this, they partner with the Kitchener Market for an annual Movember Kids KW event that educates young children and their families about Movember. Each year their event attracts hundreds of attendees and trends on social media channels locally.

According to Movember Canada, the 2016 Movember KW Campaign had over 1000 participants from the Kitchener Waterloo area and $200,000 was raised within our local community to support Movember. John Wilkie of Movember Canada had this to say “Movember is proud of the tens of thousands of Canadians that volunteer their time and effort to independently raise funds and awareness, every year, in the name of men’s health. With a number of fundraising options, there are so many ways people can support Movember and help stop men dying too young.”
According to Lisa “Kitchener Waterloo is known as a community that helps. Whether it’s shoveling a neighbour’s driveway or hosting a fundraising event, the citizens of Kitchener Waterloo are willing to lend a hand” she also mentions that since many people were online for Bell Let’s Talk Day, a day that supports Kids Help Phone which is a Movember mental health partner, and Feburary 4th is World Cancer Day they thought now was the right time to make their announcement” Diane goes on to say that “Finding fun and innovative ways to inform the local community about important issues can be a challenge, but can we very rewarding as well, so this year we plan to step up and make an impact” These are just a few of the remarks they mention about the giving spirit found in Kitchener Waterloo, and why they have decided to co-chair the 2017 Movember KW campaign.

In addition to Lisa and Diane, Beth Warren known for organizing the Mid Mo with Movember KW community partner McCabes, will be joining them as well as past chair Kevin O’Reilly and former Big MOs On Campus participants Carson and Mallory Rellinger.  New to the Movember KW committee this year is Jorge Meneses, who kicked off his first year as a MoBro with a poker tournament for Movember and Kirk Grady of the Edelweiss Tavern team that made the Top 5 fundraising teams for all of Movember Canada last year.  Together they plan to make Movember 2017, a Movember to remember.
