Hot Cross Bun Making Demonstration and Kid’s Craft Making @ McDougall Cottage Cambridge

Drop in from 1 to 4 p.m.
There are many interesting superstitions surrounding hot cross buns.  One says that they will not spoil if baked or served on Good Friday while another claims that they can protect against shipwreck.  A hot cross bun placed on the hearth is thought to protect from fire and also ensure that all your breads bake perfectly; kissing a hot cross bun before eating it is said to bring good luck. Our favourite superstition, however, is the one that says that sharing a hot cross bun with a friend will guarantee good friendship for the coming year. We can’t say whether or not these superstitions are true, but one thing we do know is that these traditional Scottish Easter treats are delicious – especially when they’re freshly baked! Plan to stop by McDougall Cottage on Good Friday when we’ll be baking up some hot cross buns to share with friends, old and new.  Nibble a sample with a hot cup of tea and don’t forget to take a free recipe home with you, so you can make some to share with all of your other friends.  Crafts for the kids too!  Admission by cash donation.

March 31

Meet The Easter Bunny @ Kitchener Market 10am-Noon
Hop on down to the Kitchener Market and spend the morning with the Easter Bunny. Make a special Easter craft, decorate a egg, and create an Easter treat at the Kids in the Kitchen. Don't forget to bring your phone or camera along to take a photo with the bunny! A non-perishable item or a 2 dollar donation to the Waterloo Region Food Bank is required by each person attending.
Easter Egg Hunt @ Joseph Schneider Haus 10am-11:30am
Bring a basket to collect eggs during this annual outdoor egg hunt. Meet the Easter Bunny and come inside to see the newly hatched chicks. Children participating in the egg hunt must be 8 years old or younger and accompanied by an adult.  Cost: $2 per child. Cash only. No registration required. (The Haus is closed for the Easter Egg Hunt, reopening at 12:00 noon with regular admission.). There are two separate areas for the egg hunt. Section A is for Children 3 and under. It is located across the street next to the parking lot. Section B is for children 8 and under. It is located next to the historic house.

Egg Dyeing, Rolling and Hunt @ McDougall Cottage Cambridge

Drop in anytime between 1 and 4 p.m.

Bring your clan down to McDougall Cottage for some egg-ceptionally good fun.  Kids can dye and decorate some of their own eggs using our home-made all natural vegetable dyes and we’ll be showing how eggs were dyed in the good ol’ days, using onion skins.  Afterward, everyone is invited to join us in the Cottage’s back yard for a good old fashioned egg rolling race - just like they do at the White House.  There will be Easter treats for all kids that come by. $2 per child, adults no charge.

April 1

On Easter Sunday, children will enjoy a massive egg hunt, jumping castles, games, music, candy and many other fun-filled activities.

This special event is happening April 1st @ 9:00am, 11:00am and 1:00pm, and is offered to those aged 3-11 years. @ Calvary Church Cambridge
