University of Waterloo Research Studies

Research Studies @ UofW Contact Lens Research

Currently the top contact lens research centre in the world is continuing to accomplish great things through research done right here at UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO. The studies are non-invasive and all of our participants are compensated at $20/hr for their time and often get free contact lenses or glasses. Right they are recruiting 7-11 year olds to participate in a 3yr study

Infant Studies Group

If you’re looking for something new and fun to do with your child, we would love to have you participate in one of our studies! Help us discover how children learn about language and the world around them. Typical studies involve a one time, half hour visit. Social Development Lab

Our lab is currently looking for children to help with our research! Our lab looks at personality and the social world for young children. Our study involves parents and their children coming into our lab and answering a few questions. Kids get to play some fun computer games as well! The typical sessions take around 2 hours and parents are always able to observe their child during the social interaction tasks. In appreciation of your time, children get a small gift. Youth Drum and Bugle Corps

Great program for youths in the KWC area. Our participants come not only from Cambridge, but Waterloo, Kitchener, Brantford, and surrounding areas as well. We are not the Scouts. We are not the Army, Navy or Sea Cadets. We are the only Youth Drum and Bugle Corps in the area!

No experience required and we have a modest membership fee ($20 per year). We provide a unique musical education program that not only teaches kids to play music or perform colour guard, we instruct them how to march, perform and basically just have fun! Check us out on our website:

Sleep And Your New Baby Waterloo Region Sessions

Session Details:
The purpose of the session is help families understand and respond to their baby’s sleep patterns and language, which will in turn strengthen family relationships and contribute to achieving optimal child health.
The 1.5 hour session will be offered weekly at all three Ontario Early Years Main sites with a mix of daytime, evening and weekend timings

Earth Sciences Museum @ University Of Waterloo
Conestoga Rovers Learning Centre (the “Dino pit”) open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
The museum’s main atrium, mining tunnel, Great Lakes fountain and stunning mineral exhibits open evenings Monday to Friday and weekends from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Waterloo Region Museum (DOON) A chance for children to meet the Tyrannosaurus Family before they move on at the end of the month.Looking for a way to entertain the kids on this PD day?  Bring your gang to the Waterloo Region Museum so they can explore the exhibit Tyrannosaurus – Meet the Family, now on display at the Waterloo Region Museum. This fun and interactive dinosaur exhibit will captivate and thrill people of all ages.

Decorate An Easter Plate @ Waterloo Region Museum (DOON) 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Children will decorate an Easter plate in this fun workshop! For ages two to five. Decorate your own personalized Easter plate! This will be the perfect plate to leave out for the Bunny stopping by your house this year.Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Admission is $10 per person plus HST. Fockers Easter Party
Easter Party Saturday April 8th from 12pm to 2pm at 63 Courtland Ave E. upstairs and there will be signs to follow. Parking is available on the right side of the building. There will be a visit from the easter bunny, crafts, games, and prizes. Admission is $5 per child.

McDougall Cottage Cambridge -Seedy Saturday and bring your seeds. We will have a seed swap, gardening booths, a kid's craft and planting area and more as we welcome the gardening season.
At 1:30 p.m. Angie Koch, Seed Library coordinator at Seeds of Diversity Canada will lecture on how to sow a succession of vegetables for continuous harvest throughout the growing season.
Admission is $5 plus HST for adults and $3 per child.  Your admission enters you into a draw for gardening tools and a membership to the Galt Horticultural Society, courtesy of the Galt Horticultural Society.

Tree Planting @ Guelph Lake 9am-2pm
This annual Earth Week event is creating a 40-hectare forest at Guelph Lake Park. Be sure to bring your family and friends. Shovels will be provided, although you are welcome to bring pint-sized ones for the kids. This event also includes family activities such as the BIObus, a bird display and live music. Park at nearby Lakeside Church (on Conservation Road), where a free shuttle will take you to the planting site. Dress for the weather, including gloves and footwear suitable for digging.

In celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary, come and plant a tree for future generations. With the help of community members, the Brant Tree Coalition has planted over 73,000 trees at events. This year’s event is at a new location. Meet at Kraemer’s Way (intersection of Oak Park Road and Hardy Road), 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Brant Tree Coalition is made up of local volunteers, GRCA, City of Brantford, County of Brant and industry.
