Studies @ UofW Contact Lens Research
Currently
the top contact lens research centre in the world is continuing to accomplish
great things through research done right here at UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO. The
studies are non-invasive and all of our participants are compensated at $20/hr
for their time and often get free contact lenses or glasses. Right they are recruiting 7-11 year olds to participate in
a 3yr study cclr.uwaterloo.ca

you’re looking for something new and fun to do with your child, we would love
to have you participate in one of our studies! Help us discover how children
learn about language and the world around them. Typical studies involve a one
time, half hour visit. You stay with your child the entire time and receive a

Social Development Lab
Our lab is currently looking for children to help with our research! Our lab
looks at personality and the social world for young children. Our study
involves parents and their children coming into our lab and answering a few
questions. Kids get to play some fun computer games as well! The typical
sessions take around 2 hours and parents are always able to observe their child
during the social interaction tasks. In appreciation of your time, children get

Youth
Drum and Bugle Corps
Great
program for youths in the KWC area. Our participants come not only from
Cambridge, but Waterloo, Kitchener, Brantford,
and surrounding areas as well. We are not the
Scouts. We are not the Army, Navy or Sea
Cadets. We are the only Youth Drum and Bugle
Corps in the area!
No
experience required and we have a modest membership fee ($20 per year). We
provide a unique musical education program that not only teaches kids to play
music or perform colour guard, we instruct them how to march, perform and
basically just have fun! Check us

Be a snow
angel! Keeping sidewalks free of ice and snow can be very challenging for older
adults and people with limited mobility. As a snow angel, you can be good
neighbour by clearing snow for those who need assistance. All you have to do is
adopt a sidewalk and keep it clear when it snows. Watch for people in your
neighbourhood who could use help removing snow and lend them a hand. It’s also
a great opportunity for students to complete volunteer hours needed and to

offers participants the chance to directly support their community in a local

This tribute concert will honour those who have sung out, spoken up and
stood proud against oppression and bullying, matters that affect the LGBTQ+
and other marginalized communities. This concert will feature music by
Elton John, Freddie Mercury, Prince, and Cyndi Lauper. Rainbow Chorus
will also sing ‘The Wish’ from Tyler’s Suite, a work that members of the
chorus will be performing at Lincoln Center this June in support of the
Tyler Clementi Foundation, an anti-bullying organization.

Help plant a
new 800-tree forest at the site of the future Guelph Lake Nature Centre. In
addition to family-friendly tree planting, this event features a traditional
Aboriginal welcome and land acknowledgement, a visit from the BIOBus (a mobile
research unit from the University of Guelph) and food trucks. Stay for an
interpretive tour and an opportunity to learn more about the nature centre that
will attract 20,000 students and thousands of visitors each year. Note that the
new nature centre will be inside Guelph Lake Park. Admission to the park is
free for this event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with voluntary donations to the new
Guelph Lake Nature Centre.

Spring Fireworks @ Grand River Raceway In Elora
Lighting up
the sky is the just the finale to the Spring Fireworks Night that promises
hours of entertainment and family fun. The Elora Lions have been
presenting a fireworks event since the beginning of time (maybe a few years
less?). This favoured tradition has changed and grown from year to year
and is now generously hosted by the Grand River Raceway
in Elora. With an exceptional location at the Raceway, the Lions work
with other groups in the community to create a night full of variety, kids’
activities and, of course, a dazzling fireworks display.
The Spring
Fireworks always takes place on the Saturday following the Victoria Day weekend
in May. Admission this year is $5 per person. Family rate is $20. Proceeds to
Groves Hospital where we are fundraising $20,000 for the new build.

The annual Grand River Raceway Open House is a free, fun
event for all ages. Come on by to discover horse anatomy, care basics,
blacksmiths and fun racing facts. While you’re here, tour the facility and
even drive a racehorse on the racetrack!
A complete tour of the facility takes about an hour and
will run rain or shine, so no matter what the weather looks like, we’ll see you
there! Just a friendly reminder, children must be accompanied by an adult at
