July 2014

During the summer months there are a lot of choices in the Kitchener Waterloo area. To make it a bit easier I am listing all the ongoing/weekly events at the top, scroll down to see individual events by date.

Kids Hop @ Kitchener Market
Bring your little ones to the Kitchener Market every Tuesday from 11a.m.-noon for a fabulous, fun-filled morning! Be prepared for a high-energy, hopping good time at these FREE weekly children’s events as our performers entertain your tots!
Erick Traplin, a popular local musician, performs some of kids' favourite songs on alternate Tuesdays. On the crafts and storytime days, listen to seasonal tales and work together to create unique crafts.

Bike It You'll Like It @ Kitchener City Hall
Join us for a community bike ride and receive a $5 lunch coupon at the Kitchener Market! Every Tuesday in July and August. Meet at 11:50am at Kitchener City Hall. Rides are 20-25 minutes and are led by Easy Riders Cycling Club. All rides end at the Kitchener Market where cyclists can enjoy a discounted lunch.

Discovery Square @ Kitchener City Hall (formely Tooney Tuesday)
This event features hands-on activities and demonstrations for children 5 - 12 focusing on science, technology, engineering, art and math! This event is hosted by popular children's entertainer, Erick Traplin.

WPL Story Time @ Waterloo Square 10:30am-11:30am (Beginning July 9th)

Join Kathy Wall LIVE at Bingemans Big Splash every Wednesday all summer long!

Every Thursday from 11 a.m.-12 p.m., Art Innovators will be hosting Squiggles to Grins at the Kitchener Market – a program for children and their parents. Participate in a fun, unique, hands-on creative art experience!

Summer Concerts @ Castle Kilbride
Thursday Evenings in July and August bring your lawn chair and enjoy unique music every time on the front lawn of Castle Kilbride 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Admission is by donation.

Teen Summer Challenge runs June 28 to Aug. 21. For kids 12 and up or going into Grade 7 in September. For each of up to 70 challenges they complete, kids can earn a ballot for an iPod draw to be held at the end of the summer. Challenges can be completed anytime, or kids can come out to one of our many Pop-Up Makerspace events. Each session runs from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. No registration required; just drop in!

Take A Kid To The Course search for participating golf courses and their respective offers.

At Merry - Hill Golf Course, kids golf free with a paying adult Monday to Sunday during the "Take a Kid" promotion. One parent with up to 3 kids is ok with them. They offer golf club rentals for kids who haven't played golf previously.

Classes are taught by one of our professional chefs who give your kids, and you, lots of opportunities to participate. This month, celebrate the Corn Festival with us and learn about the versatility of cooking with corn.

Join us as we celebrate the importance of corn in this festival! There will be live music and dancing throughout the whole festival, with Flamenco dancers to kick things off and Salsa dancers to wrap things up. La Flore de Izote will have corn themed refreshments on the piazza and will also be selling hot Salvadorian food inside the Kitchener Market building.
As well the piazza will be home to various vendors displaying art, crafts and other products!

Rock And Rumble
Hundreds of motorcycles from across Canada and the United States will line King Street in front of City Hall while downtown shakes from the full line up of bands that will rock the main stage on Civic Square.
