Currently the top contact lens research centre in the world is continuing to accomplish great things through research done right here at UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO
The studies are non-invasive and all of our participants are compensated at $20/hr for their time and often get free contact lenses or glasses.

Youth Drum & Bugle Corps
Great program for
youths in the KWC area. Our participants come not only from Cambridge, but
Waterloo, Kitchener, Brantford, and surrounding areas as well.
We are not the Scouts.
We are not the Army, Navy or Sea Cadets.
We are a the only Youth Drum and Bugle Corps in the area!
No experience required and we have a modest membership fee ($20 per year). We provide a unique musical education program that not only teaches kids to play music or perform colour guard, we instruct them how to march, perform and basically
just have fun!

Sleep And Your New Baby Waterloo Region Sessions

Session Details:
The purpose of the session is help families understand and respond to their baby’s sleep patterns and language, which will in turn strengthen family relationships and contribute to achieving optimal child health.
The 1.5 hour session will be offered weekly starting January 2016 at all three Ontario Early Years Main sites with a mix of daytime, evening and weekend timings

Join Yarmarie, the Community Nutrition Worker from Our Place Family Resource and Early Years Centre, Tuesdays in the Marketplace from April 5th to May 10th and have family cooking time. This program will provide strategies to families with children ages 4-6 years how to involve children in the kitchen.

Movies Under The Stars @ Shades Mill Cambridge (beginning June 10)
Come watch movies under the stars starting at dusk every Friday night beginning June 10 and continuing until mid- September in the new outdoor amphitheatre at Shade’s Mills Park on Avenue Road in Cambridge. Please note that movies are sometimes cancelled due to poor weather.
Movies start shortly before sunset, and the times vary between 9 p.m. during the longer days of June and July to 7:30 p.m. in September. Cancellations due to poor weather or schedule changes will be posted on the GRCA events calendar, Facebook and Twitter, or call the park at 519-621-3697.
The movies are all rated parental guidance (PG) or general admission (G). Specific movies for each Friday are listed in the Events Calendar on the GRCA website at www.grandriver.ca/events.

When you think of streams do you only think about fish?  We will explore the fascinating creatures that live in the Creek.  Bring your boots, crocs or old running shoes because we’re going into the creek to find nymphs, larvae, crustaceans and hellgrammites.  This activity is suitable for families with school-aged children.  Children under 14 years must be accompanied by an adult. Region Of Waterloo Museum (DOON) Blacksmith Hammer In

 Watch as blacksmith artists from the Ontario Artist Blacksmith Association demonstrate their skills and talent creating art with the tools of their trade.
The Ontario Artist Blacksmith Association (OABA), who promote both the traditional and modern trade of blacksmithing, will visit Doon Heritage Village for their monthly ‘hammer in’.
Watch as members demonstrate their skills and talent creating art with the tools of their trade. Demonstrations will be on-going throughout the day.

Latitudes Storytelling Festival thinks outside the books, but on June 
11, it will be celebrating its 11th festival surrounded by books.
The 2016 festival will take place one day only on June 11, 10 a.m. to 
4 p.m., in the central branch of the Kitchener Public Library, 85 
Queen St. N., in partnership with KPL.
Imagine puppets, poetry and stories told using many different media, 
in almost every part of this world-class building! We’re making noise 
in the library! The day’s program features, among many:
•    spoken word poets Kevin Sutton, Beth Murch and Bashar Kabbour;
•    workshop, puppet parade and performance by Kitchener’s 2016 
artist-in-residence, Sarah Granskou;
•    the Baden Storytellers’ Guild;
•    indigenous drum circle featuring students from St. Paul’s College, 
University of Waterloo;
•    artists at work, Sheila Diemert and Alex van Gaalen;
•    feature film, Jamland, with stories by director, Robert Waldeck;

Encaustics is an ancient art form that involves fusing layers of oil tinted beeswax together with various heating techniques  As the layers are built up, objects can be embedded in the wax and gouging techniques are incorporated to create shapes and designs.  Colors are used simultaneously to add depth and beauty to the work.  Encaustics is a unique medium which allows participants to explore their creativity while effectively engaging the senses. It is both deeply therapeutic while at the same promoting a sense of play. Participants will be taught the basics of encaustics including safety of the equipment, layering and fusing of the wax, embedding of objects, image transfers, and gouging techniques.  Each participant will be given 1-2 practice pieces and then led step by step through the creation of their 'masterpiece'.
