Getting to know the Gaslight District and Grand Opening Weekend Info




As mentioned in an earlier post, Friday night I was at the opening of A Few Good Men at the Hamilton Family Theatre in Cambridge.  I went early to get a parking spot at the theatre.  When I got out of my car I could hear music playing so I headed toward Foundry Tavern in The Gaslight District and as I got closer I knew the voice singing right away.  It was my friend Juynet singing with The Turk and the Hobbits. They were playing outdoors in the Big Screen area of The Gaslight District.  Watch the video below to see the view



Next thing you know the Toronto Blue Jays were on the screen.



It is really a fun place to be!

The Gaslight District is a new kind of 'Infrastructure for the human spirit' that helps people freely play in public in ways that start to define an inclusive community identity. 


It was a great preview of what is to come this month for The Gaslight District's Grand Opening.

I have been including Big Screen Thursdays at The Gaslight District as part of the ongoing Thursday events in my monthly list, but I felt the Grand Opening Weekend deserved a post too!

The Grand Opening Weekend is running July 28-30, 2023 with FREE CONCERTS on Friday and Saturday.

Each concert is headlined by a well-known band,  Friday night BIG WRECK is the headliner and Saturday WALK OFF THE EARTH headlines the show.

The Kitchener Market is Bringing Back In-person Events - Enter to win tickets

As many of our readers know, the Kitchener Market was our happy place.  Not only is it a hub for wonderful local food, but it also hosted many events including Food Festivals, Cooking Classes, our Movember KW Kids and Food Revolution KW days.

Since Covid-19 changed everything, the Kitchener Market has been offering their Saturday Farmers' Market, Online Health and Wellness events as well as Virtual Cooking Classes. Now they have announced some live events that will take place at the Kitchener Market Eby St. covered area.

The Kitchener Market Brings Music and Theatre to Downtown Kitchener

The Eby St. side of the Kitchener Market is often thought of as the outdoor area where you go to get your fruits and vegetables, but this month that is about to change. It will be transformed into an outdoor covered patio offering live music on Thursdays beginning on August 12, 2021

Event Details:

Live music like never before at the Kitchener Market! Our Eby Street covered parking and vendor area is transformed into Downtown Kitchener's newest performance venue to partner with The Registry Theatre for 'Music at the Market'. Join us Thursday evenings for a multi-performance showcase of some of Waterloo Region's biggest musical talents. You can purchase tickets (minimum purchase of 2 tickets per order) to reserve a table and with friends and family and enjoy drink options from TWB Brewing and food prepared by Chef Rob.

'Music at the market' is sponsored by the Downtown Kitchener BIA and Canadian Heritage.

12 Days of Christmas Giveaways – Sonshine and Broccoli’s Hug Life




Finding age-appropriate songs for kids can be a challenge, but this year Sonshine and Broccoli have just the thing. Their new album Hug Life is musical journey of entertaining songs mixed in modern themes that children can learn about through song.  Each tune is kid-friendly and gives a lot of information to children.

Hug Life

The album Hug Life contains a dozen songs for families to listen and learn together.
One such song teaches kids to be a Buddy Not A Bully.  This song tackles the issue from both sides.  It teaches kids to tell someone if they are being bullied, but it also gives ideas of what to do with emotions of anger and frustration.  This is just one of the many songs your kids can enjoy on the Hug Life album.  Of course, being basketball fans, we really like the Slam Dunk song too!

The Hug Life album from Sonshine and Broccoli is sure to be a hit with families and we think it will make a great Christmas Gift.
