Drayton Entertainment’s One for the Pot May Have You Seeing Double

When we arrived at Dunfield Theatre this week and noticed all the doorways on the stage, we knew this show would keep us on our toes. Much like It Runs In The Family that also included Eddie Glen and Amanda Leigh in the cast, this British Farce is truly a comedy of errors, mistaken identities, family lineage and fibs.  One for the Pot is set at the Hardcastle estate during an upscale party. As the party guests arrive you begin to question their reasons for being there.  As the party begins you learn about a sum of money that is about to be distributed, but during the party some unexpected but familiar faces arrive looking for their share of the pot.

Much like Drayton Entertainment’s Harvest you will see an actor playing multiple roles in this production, but you need to keep an eye on who is entering, exiting and hiding on stage to stay focused during the performance.

One For The Pot is one of the best farces ever written – it’s relentlessly funny, full of outrageous characters, and packed with clever plot twists that keep audiences guessing… and laughing,” says Alex Mustakas, Artistic Director of Drayton Entertainment.  “The show is executed with brilliant comic finesse by a terrific cast of performers – audiences are in for a treat.”

We think One for the Pot would make a great Parents’ Night Out. Be sure to grab you tickets soon!

One for the Pot runs at the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge from July 26 to August 12.  Tickets are $46 for Adults and $27 for Youth under 20 years of age.  Tickets for groups of 20 or more and select Discount Dates are $37.  HST is applicable to all ticket prices.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.draytonentertainment.com, in person at the Box Office, or by calling 519-621-8000 or toll free at 1-855-DRAYTON (372-9866).

Glass Tiger and Big Wreck in Kitchener For ONTour #Ontario150

As many of our readers know, I love seeing live music and supporting Canadian bands and solo artists.  This began many years ago when I went to my first outdoor music festival in high school to see GLASS TIGER.  It was at THE SOUNDS OF SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL in Waterloo Park. It seems that Glass Tiger began something with me that stuck throughout the years. Decades later Alan Frew became a staple in our house with his theme for the Toronto Maple Leafs and in 2015 when I learned the news about my Father’s Cancer it was Alan Frew that I connected with on Facebook. He has suffered a stroke and the 2 of us had a bit of back and forth about hospitals, depression and keeping a positive outlook. Flash forward two years later and hear I am again watching Glass Tiger at an outdoor concert.

A post shared by Diane Morgan & Lisa McDonald (@those2girls) on

Glass Tiger was one of two bands I was there to see.  The other being BIG WRECK. I remember seeing BIG WRECK at the 1st Big Music Fest in 2014 along with some other amazing acts!  Knowing that they were going to be the headliner for the ONTour stop in Kitchener doubled my enthusiasm to attend this outdoor concert.

Getting a chance to see Canadian bands perform live is something I am always grateful for!

Did you attend the ONTour concert at Kitchener City Hall or are you attending one of the upcoming shows? Let us know in the comments! We always want to hear from our readers and know what interests they have as well.

Drayton Entertainment Reaps Their Harvest of Talent

The harvest season arrives early in Drayton Ontario this year with Drayton Entertainment’s production of HARVEST.  This comedic play set in farm country is also a testament to Drayton Entertainment’s commitment to cultivating great talent, which you quickly notice as they only have two actors take the stage to play a plethora of characters during this show.  Each character is distinguished by either hats, scarves or eye wear which means the actors had to really dive into the characters by changing vocal stylings and physical stature.  Without any real costume changes this show keeps your watching to see who is portraying who on the stage.

There Is a Healthy Helping of Comedic Timing In Harvest

The story is based on a farming couple approaching their Autumn Years and deciding how to best move away from their rural area.  Instead of selling the house on the family farm they decide to sell the farm but keep the house as a rental property.  When a nomad airline pilot convinces them that their farm is his top choice to plant some roots, they quickly accept him as a tenant.  This is how the comedy of errors begins.

When we attended the Media Debut of Harvest, the couple that the play was based on was also in attendance, making it an extra special show!

Get Your Tickets

Want to know how it ends? Then be sure to get your tickets to see HARVEST at the Drayton Festival Theatre this July.

Regular performance tickets are $46 for adults; $27 for youth under 20 years of age; and $36 for groups of 20 or more.  HST is applicable to all ticket prices.

Harvest runs from July 12 to July 30. Tickets can be purchased in person at Drayton Festival Theatre, online at http://www.draytonentertainment.com or by calling the Box Office at (519) 6385555 or toll free at 1855drayton (3729866).

Drayton Entertainment’s Thoroughly Modern Millie Is a Tap Dancer’s Delight

Drayton Entertainment is throwing it back to the era of short hemlines, glamorous frocks, head turning hats and secret speakeasys with their production of Thoroughly Modern Millie.

The Roaring 20s highlighted changes in society and that is what Millie has set out to do herself.  She is moving away from her family in Kansas in order to start a new modern life in New York City.  She plans to make herself a “modern” but when things don’t go as planned she is forced to create a new plan, one that involves climbing, or should I say tapping, her way to the top of society’s ladder.

Thoroughly Modern Millie Will Have You Tapping Along

What seems to be the by-gone art of tap dancing receives a grand revival in this Broadway style musical.  Almost every song includes some form of tap choreography.  Even the elevator at Millie’s rooming house requires tap dancing in order for it to operate.

With each song and dance routine Millie’s life begins to change and become more modern each day.  As the story evolves so do Millie’s plans.  Find out if Millie is able to tap her way to the top by seeing this Tony Award winning show performed by Drayton Entertainment on stage at the St Jacob’s Country Playhouse this summer.

Young Millie Dillmount has just arrived in the Big Apple in search of a new life. She’s determined to better her station by becoming a secretary for a wealthy man and then convincing him to marry her. But, it doesn’t take long before Millie’s “thoroughly modern” plan goes awry.

Get Your Tickets

Thoroughly Modern Millie is on stage from July 5 to July 23. Tickets may be purchased in person at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse, online at www.draytonentertainment.com or by calling the Box Office at (519) 747-7788 or toll free at 1-855-drayton (372-9866).

Blown Away by David Blaine

Many of our readers know we get so excited when we get to attend a magic show.  We find magicians fascinating.  Some are known for their illusions and others are known for their daredevil stunts.  David Blaine takes both of these styles of magic, blends them together, and then takes them to a whole other level with his mind-blowing act.  We would never want to spoil what happens in magic show, as we think seeing is believing, just know that much of the magic you see in his television specials happens before your very eyes without any help from that other kind of magic, the magic of television editing.

When David Blaine took the stage at Center In The Square, he immediately captured the audience with tricks not for the faint at heart, but he tackles these stunts with charm and humour throughout the performance. His laid back manor puts the audience at ease while performs the task at hand.   The man on the stage tonight was very different from the man that has been on my computer and television screens.  He really seemed appreciative that people came to the show, he took questions and connected with the people that he brought on the stage. He really took the time to engage with the audience and even inspired future magicians. In return, the audience showed the upmost respect for him and his craft.

Until he mentioned it, we had no idea that this was his first live world tour.

Working on my most exciting project yet. A live tour coming soon

A post shared by David Blaine (@davidblaine) on

When you see what he puts himself through at each show for the purposes of challenging himself and entertaining those who bought tickets, you have to appreciate all that went into creating this tour. We were blown away by David Blaine by both his dedication to magic and by his dedication to his fans.

You do not want to miss seeing David Blaine live!

Visit davidblaine.com for upcoming tour dates in your area.
