Kevin Costner Stars In Disney's McFarland, USA

I have been a long time fan of Kevin Costner in sports movies.  It began with several baseball movies, then moved into golf, then football and now in McFarland, USA he plays a track coach.

What's special about this sports movie, is that like Disney's Million Dollar Arm, this film is based on a true story.

From Disney's Press Release
STORY SYNOPSIS:

Based on the 1987 true story, "McFarland" follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. Coach White and the McFarland students have a lot to learn about each other but when White starts to realize the boys’ exceptional running ability, things begin to change. Soon something beyond their physical gifts becomes apparent—the power of family relationships, their unwavering commitment to one another and their incredible work ethic. With grit and determination, the unlikely band of runners eventually overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well. Along the way, Coach White realizes that his family finally found a place to call home and both he and his team achieve their own kind of American dream.

UPDATE
McFarland Review
Echoing the messages of Million Dollar Arm, this movie helps us to understand each other's backgrounds and upbringing.  It shows that family values play a big roll in home life, schooling and working adult life.  This true story shows the challenges brought to a family that moved to a culturally different community began as hardships but through understanding and working together it made a difference in everyone's life.  Be sure to watch the credits to get an update of where these people are today.
