Sing 2 is a Cause for Celebration - Review and Giveaway

We'll start with the Disclaimer - Yes, I did receive a copy for review, but this just means I'm able to give away the film as a prize too! Enter the contest at the end of this post.

Buster Moon and his band of theatrical performers are back and bigger than ever in Sing 2.  In the follow-up to the 2016 film Sing, all the characters you loved are ready to hit the big stage in the Entertainment Capital of the World! What they don't realize is that the road to the big leagues is a lot bumpier than they anticipated. Especially when Miss Crawly is behind the wheel!

via GIPHY

Buster is up to his old tricks of promising what he may not be able to deliver on.  This time it recruit a former rock star to join his latest stage production.  When plans get complicated for each of these characters learns to lean on one another and find the confidence to believe in themselves.

The new chapter in Illumination's smash animated franchise arrives with big dreams and spectacular hit songs as the ever-optimistic koala, Buster Moon, and his all-star cast of performers prepare to launch their most dazzling stage extravaganza yet... all in the glittering entertainment capital of the world. There's just one hitch: They first have to persuade the world's most reclusive rock star--played by global music icon Bono, in his animated film debut--to join them

We think this is a fantastic family film with lessons that you should always reach for your dreams and not let the negative thoughts of others stop you. It will have your whole gang dancing and singing along to songs from the 70s, 80s. 90s and recent hits. After watching the film you may want to celebrate and put on your own show.  To help with that, be sure to download the Sing 2 Activity Kit

It is filled with planning ideas, colouring pages and activity sheets you can do with your own family of performers.

We'll start with the Disclaimer - Yes, we did receive complimentary tickets, but this just means we're able to offer you a chance attend too! Enter the contest at the end of this post!

Get Together with Raffi

RAFFI was well known in my house growing up.  We had SINGABLE SONGS and MORE SINGABLE SONGS by Raffi.  These albums were well used and often the background music for whatever activity happened to be going on that day.  Raffi’s music has spanned decades beginning in 70’s (as you can see by the styles in the video below) and continuing now that Raffi himself is his 70s.  He was such a famous Canadian that when Centre in the Square named the theatre portion of the venue the Raffi Armenian Theatre, I thought it was for Raffi the Children’s performer I grew up hearing about.  It made sense to me as his name is Raffi and he is Armenian.  It wasn’t until recent years that I learned of the Symphony Conductor Raffi Armenian.  I guess it shows what an impression RAFFI left on me! Either way, Raffi hopes to GET TOGETHER with you and your family at the Raffi Armenian Theatre at Centre in the Square on June 3, 2018.

Raffi is a singer, songwriter, producer, author, lecturer, and tireless advocate for children.  He is best known for his work as a children’s entertainer and advocate whose string of gold and platinum-selling recordings includes his iconic song, “Baby Beluga”.  Once called “the most popular children’s singer in the English-speaking world” (Washington Post) and “Canada’s all-time children’s champion” (Toronto Star), Raffi is also a recipient of the Order of Canada and the United Nations’ Earth Achievement Award.  He has published three books for adults and holds four honorary degrees. He has never advertised to children or made any commercial endorsements aimed at kids. His commitment to treating his young fans with respect has changed society’s outlook on music made for children.

Glass Tiger and Big Wreck in Kitchener For ONTour #Ontario150

As many of our readers know, I love seeing live music and supporting Canadian bands and solo artists.  This began many years ago when I went to my first outdoor music festival in high school to see GLASS TIGER.  It was at THE SOUNDS OF SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL in Waterloo Park. It seems that Glass Tiger began something with me that stuck throughout the years. Decades later Alan Frew became a staple in our house with his theme for the Toronto Maple Leafs and in 2015 when I learned the news about my Father’s Cancer it was Alan Frew that I connected with on Facebook. He has suffered a stroke and the 2 of us had a bit of back and forth about hospitals, depression and keeping a positive outlook. Flash forward two years later and hear I am again watching Glass Tiger at an outdoor concert.

Glass Tiger was one of two bands I was there to see.  The other being BIG WRECK. I remember seeing BIG WRECK at the 1^st Big Music Fest in 2014 along with some other amazing acts!  Knowing that they were going to be the headliner for the ONTour stop in Kitchener doubled my enthusiasm to attend this outdoor concert.

Last night I had the opportunity to see performances by HEDLEY, CARLY RAE JEPSEN and FRANCESCO YATES at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex here in Kitchener Ontario courtesy of LIVE NATION.  While all three of these fantastic Canadian artists have performed in the area before, combined they brought their great energy and talent to the filled arena.

Here's what happened at the #HelloWorldTourKitchener stop.

Francesco Yates Brought The Flair

The stylistic sounds of Francesco Yates fired up the audience as the opening act and created a buzz that reached the audience for the stage to the stands.

Her vocal stylings and "sing with me" style had the crowd singing and dancing to her new songs as well as her hits like CALL ME MAYBE and GOOD TIME. Being the only female on this tour, Carly Rae Jepsen showed that she can run with the boys any day.

Hedley Brought Down The House

Hedley brings new meaning to the term taking it up a notch.  Throughout their concert they repeatedly brought the audience to their feet asking "Do You Feel Like Dancing"?  How could anyone refuse that offer?

Big Music Fest 2015 - Media Launch and PRE SALE CODE

Big Music Fest Returns To Kitchener

Today involved heading to Kitchener City Hall for Media Coverage of the Big Music Fest 2015 Media Launch.  The artists performing at this year's event were announced over the lunch hour and I did my best to tweet it all in real time!

It began with the  Master Of Ceremonies, Mayor Berry Vrabnovic describing how last year's Big Music Fest came to be and that we should be looking forward to this year's event.

Other local dignitaries took to the podium to let us know that Kitchener Ontario wants to focus on Arts and Culture and that Big Music Fest will be an expanded festival this year.  This year's event will also include a Food Festival as well as a Film Festival.

See Who Is Headed To Kitchener For Big Music Fest

The theme for Big Music Fest 2015 is CLASS AND KICK ASS. Once again Big Music Fest will be hosting the Breaking Bands event on the Friday night of the music festival. After the announcement about the Friday night kick off event, they annouced the CLASS ACT.

Post by Lisa McDonald.

Rod Stewart And Blondie with Mathew Curry and Mark Ballas will be taking the stage on the final day of Big Music Fest, Sunday July 12 2015.
I had the opportunity to see Rod Stewart many moons ago at the CNE Grandstand. He put on a spectacular show! Lots of energy and audience interaction, including his signature soccer ball launching.

As for the KICK ASS portion of this year's Big Music Fest they brought in some big guns

Post by Lisa McDonald.

Soundgarden And Janes Addiction with Monster Truck and Extreme will be performing on Saturday July 11 2015 at McLennan Park Kitchener Ontario Canada!

I have been a big fan of Chris Cornell both as a solo artist and as lead singer of some fantastic bands, but have yet to see him perform live.  I did however see Extreme perform in Toronto in the early 90s and they were great!

Plus there will still be more performers added to this! We can't wait to see which groups will be also be playing at the multiple day music festival!
