Celebrate Back to School with Minions: The Rise of Gru - Review and Giveaway

We'll start with the Disclaimer - Yes, I did receive a copy for review, but this just means I'm able to give away the film as a prize too! Enter the contest at the end of this post

September is here and everyone is headed back to school including Little Gru...

While his class doesn't believe he can do it, Little Gru has big plans.

Ever wonder how Gru learned his despicable ways, how Dr. Nefario came to work for him, how he got such an elaborate lair and why was he so obsessed with capturing the moon? All these questions and more are answered in Minions: The Rise of Gru.

Minions: The Rise of Gru Review

If you are a fan of the Depicable Me Franchise, then this Minions sequel is a Must-See! It sends the Minions on another action-packed adventure. This time they are battling a villainous crew called the Vicious Six. Thankfully, they make new friends along the way to assist them on their quest.  Of course there is never an easy fix when it comes to the team of Bob, Stuart and Kevin and with the addition of Otto to the group, it makes it even harder, and funnier. I believe your family will enjoy watching Minions: The Rise of Gru together as it is filled with giggles and goofs.

Last month we let you know about the release of Minions: The Rise of Gru on digital and today it has been released on BluRay and DVD!  However you watch it, expect fun from beginning to end.

Drayton Entertainment's It Runs in the Family is Exactly What the Doctor Ordered to Tickle Your Funny Bone

Last week I attended the Opening Night of It Runs in the Family at the Hamilton Family Theatre in Cambridge Ontario.  Once inside the theatre you noticed that The Mattamy Auditorium had some strange scenery.  There were snowflakes projected on the curtains and there were Christmas Carols playing over the audio system.  This was to transport the audience to St. Andrew's Hospital in the midst of the busy Christmas Season.  As the show begins we learn that Dr. Mortimore is about to give an important speech while the other Hospital staff are consumed by their regular duties as well as learning their parts for the Christmas Panto. This already confusing time is about to get a whole lot more chaotic as a nurse from Dr. Mortimore's past shows up unexpectedly.  She refuses to leave until she explains to him why his past transgressions are about to impact him, and if he doesn't do something soon the whole Hospital will be turned upside down.

Neurologists from around the world are gathering at St. Andrews Hospital to hear Dr. Mortimore deliver the prestigious Ponsonby Lecture, but his shady past is catching up with him at the most inopportune time.   It seems that Dr. Mortimore had a brief liaison with nurse Jane Tate many years ago – resulting in an enraged, illegitimate son who appears on the scene looking for the father he never knew.

Desperate to protect his reputation and keep his lusty libido hidden from his wife, Dr. Mortimore enlists the help of his colleague, the unassuming Dr. Hubert Bonney.  Unfortunately, the dynamic duo only succeeds in spinning a web of mayhem and madness that gets worse by the minute.

Little white lies soon grow into gigantic whoppers, and more and more characters get helplessly tangled in the series of ludicrously improbable events.  The story is structured like a house of cards, as it builds up with one frantic situation after another, but ultimately, it’s the audience that collapses – with laughter.

This British Farce is sure to tickle your funny bone! Director Alex Mustakas made sure of that.  In his opening remarks, he mentioned how we all deserved to laugh together again

The Wrong Missy is the Right Movie You Need in Your Life

Photos and Video courtesy of Touchwood PR

As we are spending our days inside, it is increasingly important to find ways to enjoy the great indoors. Spending time watching movies has always been the great escape for many decades. The choice of movie genres is also important. Choosing to watch comedy films during tough times is something we have always done. It sets your mind at ease and puts a smile on your face. That is why we were excited to hear that Netflix is releasing The Wrong Missy next month. We think it’s the right time for The Wrong Missy.

Parents’ Night In

Many of our readers know that we say going to a comedy show is a fantastic way to spend a Parents’ Night Out. Now that people are looking for ways to enjoy a Parents’ Night In, we think comedy movies will fill that void.
On May 13, 2020 you can catch David Spade and Lauren Lapkus in The Wrong Missy. A story of the wrong girl at the wrong time. Watch the trailer below to see what we mean

Caution for those with kiddos in the room, foul language alert.

When Tim Morris meets his dream girl and their relationship quickly escalates through texts, he throws caution to the wind and invites her to his company’s corporate retreat on an island resort… However, when a past blind date from hell shows up at the airport for the weekend getaway instead, he learns too late that he’s been texting “The Wrong Missy”.

Rounding out the cast is Nick Swardson, Geoff Pierson, Jackie Sandler, Molly Sims, Sarah Chalke, Chris Witaske, and Rob Schneider. With this cast of characters, you know this movie will receive all the LOLs.

Mark it Down for May

The premiere of #TheWrongMissy is only a few weeks away so mark down May 13, 2020. Now is the right time for The Wrong Missy and finally you have some plans that you can keep on the calendar!
Do you plan on watching The Wrong Missy? Let us know in the comments. We would also like to hear your thoughts on the film after you watch it, so be sure to leave a review!

There Is Some Necessary Roughness In Drayton Entertainment’s Unnecessary Farce

Drayton Entertainment has always been known for their musical productions, but over the past few years they have become the go to company for their farce comedies as well.  With the successful productions of It Runs In The Family and Run For Your Wife , this late summer stage show of Unnecessary Farce is sure to be a hit especially with the inclusion of a hitman.

What To Expect At Unnecessary Farce

The stage is set in an adjoining motel room set up for an undercover police operation.  The two officers involved are wanting their sting to help them move up the rankings of the police force, and they won’t let their inexperience stop them.  The other cast of characters include the local mayor, his wife, his security guard, a newly appointed accountant and a legendary hitman.  Together this ensemble learns about a crime ring which is has been embezzling funds from the local government and using city hall as the means to launder the cash.  While this sounds like the plot to a serious crime story, this show will have you laughing out loud as you watch the actors stumble and bumble their way through the “almost” professional investigation.  There are one-liners, misinterpretations and some necessary roughness throughout Unnecessary Farce.  We think it would be a good choice to take in Unnecessary Farce on your next Parents’ Night Out.
Unnecessary Farce is playing right now at The Dunfield Theatre in Cambridge Ontario.
Tickets are $44 for Adults and $26 for Youth under 20 years of age. Tickets for groups of 20 or more are $36. HST is applicable to all ticket prices. Tickets may be purchased online at www.draytonentertainment.com, in person at any Drayton Entertainment Box Office, or by calling toll free 1-855-DRAYTON (372-9866).

Stripping Down Marriage In Mid-Life With Sexy Laundry

This summer Drayton Entertainment took us through the stages of romantic relationships.

The journey began with the difficulties of dating in LOOKING, then went on to explain the pressures of getting married in Last Chance Romance and explains what happens when the passion begins to fade in their latest production SEXY LAUNDRY.

PARENTS' NIGHT OUT

While this two person play is billed as a comedy, the play itself is filled with a lot of heartfelt emotions. It's purspose is to make you laugh, but it also would strike a cord with audience members experiencing their own mid-life marriage crisis.  It shines a light on what actually happens behind closed doors in comparison to what should be taking place in the bedroom.  In this stage performance the couple attempt to create a romantic weekend with help from a Sex For Dummies manual.  While they agree that they are not as passionate as they once were, they to come to see how marriage, work, bills, and kids take a toll on their love life. The characters in Sexy Laundry will resonate with many and will make you feel as if you're laughing at your own circumstances.

Sexy Laundry promises all of the wit and whimsy of your typical romantic comedy, but also adds an underlying sense of tension, desire, and compassion that will immediately connect with audiences.

Regular performance tickets are$42.00 for adults; $25.00 for youth under 20 years of age and groups of 20 or more are $34.00. HST is applicable to all ticket prices.
Sexy Laundry runs September 8th to December 20th. Tickets can be purchased in person at the
St. Jacobs Schoolhouse Theatre, online at

Box Office toll free at 1-855-drayton (372-9866).

The Difficulties With Looking For Love Are Explained In Drayton Entertainment's LOOKING

Single And Looking

Drayton's Festival Theatre is currently running LOOKING. It's story of how to find love after 40.  Before online dating sites became popular, people would take to the personal ads to find that special someone.  This hilarious look at blind dates will have you bursting at the seams.  It covers everything from sketchy bars to awkward small talk with strangers.  If you have experienced or even thought of joining the dating pool this production is will hit home.

What To Look For At LOOKING

LOOKING is laugh out loud comedy written by Canadian playwright Norm Foster.  The production has running themes like remembering song lyrics, ageism, the longing for relationships and the radio, whether it be about brodcasting or late night washroom runs.  This wit in this show is performed by 4 actors, all with great timing and a stage presence that makes you feel like you're watching them from across the bar.

Val, Nina, Andy and Matt are brought together by a personal ad in the newspaper. To buffer the potentially disastrous meeting, Val brings along her trusted girlfriend, Nina, and Andy brings along his best buddy, Matt. What follows is a wildly romantic, warm, and sweet story as they look for love in all the wrong places … only to find it and almost let it go before it’s too late.

You Should Be Looking At Getting Tickets For LOOKING

Looking runs through June 27th. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Drayton Festival Theatre, online atwww.draytonfestivaltheatre.com or by calling the Box Office at(519) 638-5555 or toll free at 1-855-drayton (372-9866).

Hanging Out With The Harlem Globetrotters

I was a 70's kid and loved all things Harlem Globetrotters. I watched their cartoons, their TV specials and appearances on other shows.  They were big in the disco era but I had no idea the team had started many decades earlier. When PTPA announced that they were participaiting in Harlem Globetrotters Fans Rule Tour I knew it would be a slam dunk.

Before the game we had the opportunity to attend a Globetrotters Meet and Greet. I took the opportunity to take a pic of Diane's family while we waited courtside for our turn.

Then we were taken behind the scenes for this green screen photo with two Globetrotter Teamates.

You can see the professional image here

Game On!

We were in our seats by Game Time and let me tell you they put on quite a show! There were spins, dunks, trick shot and more! You don’t have to know anything about basketball to love the Globetrotters. They are letting fans vote on new rules of the game this year – and you don’t have to be a sports fans to participate. Before you go to a game, head to http://www.harlemglobetrotters.com/rule and pick the rule you and your kids want to see in your game.

There was lots of fun throughout the game too. There were dance competitions, appearances by mascots Globie, Big G, and Little G and of course lots of Harlem Globetrotters hoop hijinks!

Family Fun For Everyone

If you see that the Harlem Globetrotters are headed your way, be sure to use the coupon code listed at the top of this post and take your family to see this historic team! Do you have great Globetrotters memory? Post it in the comments below and we can be nostalgic together!

According To Jim

We'll start with the Disclaimer - Yes we did receive a complimentary tickets, but this just means we're able to offer you a chance attend too! Enter the contest at the end of this post!

According To Jim was a very funny Sitcom where Jim (played by Jim Belushi) and his brother-in-law Andy (actor Larry Joe Campbell) were always getting into a bit of a mess.

You can see both of these funny fellas in their upcoming performance Jim Belushi And The Chicago Board Of Comedy at Centre In The Square
According To Jim ... "We are not stand-up comedians. Our show is not a passive, sit-back-and-watch experience. Most of the fun we have on stage comes from our inclusion of the audience --- we get suggestions from them to begin each scene we perform, and in certain instances, bring them on-stage with us to add to our performance. It's less a 'show' and more a party. At least it feels like one to me." - Jim Belushi
