FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: KITCHENER WATERLOO CELEBRATES THE RETURN OF MOVEMBER WITH COMMUNITY EVENTS AND FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES

Movember KW is going into its 9th year and to celebrate they want to keep you busy throughout the month.

The month kicks off with the 3rd Annual Mo Poker event at Core Lounge this Saturday November 3rd at 5pm.  The Movember competitions continue the following day at the Edelweiss Tavern with the November 4th Stache Bash Cornhole Tournament beginning at 2pm.

On Saturday November 10th everyone is invited to attend the Free Movember Kids KW event at Kitchener Market from 10am-Noon. Activities include face painted moustaches, moustache cooking baking, special guest appearances and always popular photo booth. That evening Maxwells will be hosting their 8th Movember Charity concert beginning at 7:30pm

Visit Movember KW at the Kitchener Rangers Community Corner during the November 16th game vs. the Saginaw Spirit. Also, that evening the Edelweiss Tavern will be having their annual Head Shave Fundraiser. After raising over $86,000 last year, this year the Edelweiss Team hopes to raise $100,000 for Movember Canada!

Movember KW will be at the KW Titans Community Corner on Thursday November 22nd as the Titans take on Windsor Express.

In addition to the events listed above, we know that local schools, organizations, businesses and individuals will be raising funds for Movember as well.

Men growing moustaches become walking, talking billboards for men’s health. The best part about Movember is that before a dollar is raised…1000’s of men across Canada and the world are growing moustaches and starting conversations that are changing people’s lives. This is called the “power of the moustache. - via the Movember Foundation

We want to encourage both the men and women of Kitchener Waterloo to get involved with Movember KW this year.
For more information about Movember KW or any of the events listed above visit https://www.facebook.com/MovemberKW or

Spring Fireworks @ Grand River Raceway In Elora

Lighting up the sky is the just the finale to the Spring Fireworks Night that promises hours of entertainment and family fun.   The Elora Lions have been presenting a fireworks event since the beginning of time (maybe a few years less?).  This favoured tradition has changed and grown from year to year and is now generously hosted by the Grand River Raceway in Elora.  With an exceptional location at the Raceway, the Lions work with other groups in the community to create a night full of variety, kids’ activities and, of course, a dazzling fireworks display.

This year we have rented TWO Bouncy Castles for young children and will have music on hand for entertainment.

The Spring Fireworks always takes place on the Saturday following the Victoria Day weekend in May. Admission this year is $5 per person. Family rate is $20.

Proceeds for this year’s fireworks Lions for Groves Diabetes and Patient Education Programs.  https://www.eloralions.org/

Hot Cross Bun Making Demonstration and Kid’s Craft Making @ McDougall Cottage Cambridge

Drop in from 1 to 4 p.m.
There are many interesting superstitions surrounding hot cross buns.  One says that they will not spoil if baked or served on Good Friday while another claims that they can protect against shipwreck.  A hot cross bun placed on the hearth is thought to protect from fire and also ensure that all your breads bake perfectly; kissing a hot cross bun before eating it is said to bring good luck. Our favourite superstition, however, is the one that says that sharing a hot cross bun with a friend will guarantee good friendship for the coming year. We can’t say whether or not these superstitions are true, but one thing we do know is that these traditional Scottish Easter treats are delicious – especially when they’re freshly baked! Plan to stop by McDougall Cottage on Good Friday when we’ll be baking up some hot cross buns to share with friends, old and new.  Nibble a sample with a hot cup of tea and don’t forget to take a free recipe home with you, so you can make some to share with all of your other friends.  Crafts for the kids too!  Admission by cash donation. http://calendar.mcdougallcottage.ca/EventsList/Detail/2018-03-30-1300-Hot-Cross-Bun-Making-Demonstration-and-Kids-Craft-

March 31

A non-perishable item or a 2 dollar donation to the Waterloo Region Food Bank is required by each person attending. http://www.kitchenermarket.ca/en/Calendar/Details.aspx?Id=d12b5711-fd58-4aca-ae71-cf3d73d75fb2
