Pick up your kit at the KW Art Gallery for the Family Sunday events

December 2020: Winter Wonderland

As the pandemic continues to affect our day to day lives, we may start to notice that winter may look a little bit different this year.

This month, we’ve partnered with Brenda Reid, coordinator of the From Behind The Mask community quilt project to creatively collect and record stories of this unique time. As the year comes to an end, what changes have you observed? What winter activities do you enjoy doing and how do you think they might be different this year? What thought, memory, or experience would you like to record as a snapshot of your Winter 2020 season?

Pick up a kit from the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery starting Tuesday 1 December during regular business hours and use the materials inside to let us know! Kits completed as part of our December Family Sunday will be assembled and installed at KWAG for community display in 2021.

Get some inspiration for the snowy days ahead with our Winter Activity Bingo Card - we’d love to see what you get up to! Feel free to share pictures or videos of your activities with us using #KWAGFamilySunday on social media.

Cozy up with a cool story in our Virtual Story Time as read by our friends at the Kitchener Public Library For more winter-inspired titles, the Kitchener Public Library will be offering curated reading lists for kids, tweens and teens. Info from https://kwag.ca/upcoming-programs-events

Kitchener Bird Count

Kitchener Christmas Bird Count

Date:    Saturday, December 19, 2020
Location:    Kitchener Area
Compiler:    Ethan Gosnell    519-570-1256 or ethan.gosnell2@gmail.com

If you would like to participate, please contact the Compiler. They need field observers/recorders and feeder watchers.

Count volunteers follow specified routes through a designated 24-km diameter circle, counting every bird they see or hear all day. It's not just a species tally—all birds are counted all day, giving an indication of the total number of birds in the circle that day.

If you are a beginning birder, you will be able to join a group that includes at least one experienced birdwatcher.

If your home is within the boundaries of a CBC circle, then you can stay at home and report the birds that visit your feeder on count day as long as you have made prior arrangement with the count compiler. https://waterlooregionnature.ca/event/kitchener-christmas-bird-count-2020
