Woodside National Historic Site Fall and Winter Festivities – Enter To Win

Did you know that here in Kitchener Ontario Canada lies the childhood home of Sir William Lyon Mackenzie King? Yes Canada’s 10th Prime Minister, who graces the Canadian $50 bill grew up in Kitchener! His home is known as Woodside National Historic Site is soon to be part of the Canada’s 150 Year Celebration, but you can learn more about this historic home this fall and winter with their upcoming events.  Check out the Woodside on Weekends list followed by their December Victorian Christmas Celebrations! See which of these events are best suited for your family, and perhaps you can win your way in to one of the December Christmas Celebrations. Read on to find out how!

Woodside On Weekends

Weekend Demonstration Schedule
Come to Woodside and enjoy captivating activities, each weekend we feature a unique game, craft or culinary delight.
Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20
Sample John King’s homemade ginger beer and learn how to make it.
Saturday, November 26 and Sunday, November 27
Gather around the kitchen table as we assemble clove and orange ornamental pomanders.
Saturday, December 3 and Sunday, December 4
From shortbread to pfeffernusse, discover the popular Christmas cookies of 1890s Berlin and sample some along the way!
Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11
Learn how to make all manner of handmade Christmas decorations using natural and edible materials – including cornucopias, Christmas crackers, popcorn garlands and cookie ornaments.
Saturday, December 17 and Sunday, December 18
Gather in the parlour for a special interpretive talk about traditional Victorian Christmas music and carols.

Savour the seasonal delights of a Victorian Christmas and learn how the King family celebrated this festive time of year. Feel the magic of the season as you walk through the richly decorated rooms of Woodside in its Victorian charm!
Lamplight
Thursday, December 1st
6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Share in the traditions of a Woodside Christmas by the soft glow of lamplight. Cozy up under the mistletoe and enjoy hot apple cider. On our grounds, warm up by the crackling fire and sample roasted chestnuts. Gather in the parlour for live music as we perform traditional carols. $7.80 per person. Christmas Mementos
Saturday, December 10
10 a.m. – Noon
Discover the enchantment of a Christmas morning reminiscent of the Victorian past. Decorate your very own cookie ornament to hang on your tree. Dip a pen in ink and write a letter to Santa Claus while sampling seasonal cookies and apple cider. Admission: $7.80 per participant. This program requires advance registration as space is limited. Please register by calling 519-571-5684. This program is subject to minimum enrollment.
Christmas Cheer
Saturday, December 17
10 a.m. – Noon
Delight in the spirit of a Victorian Christmas as you are guided on a tour of the King family home decorated for the season. Enjoy live music in the parlour accompanied by piano. Sample seasonal baking complimented by a variety of teas. Admission: $14.70 per person. This program requires advance registration as space is limited. Historic House Open: Noon to 4 p.m., Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
*Private group bookings available in the a.m.
Grounds Open: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week.
*Last day of the 2016 season is Sunday, December 18, 2016. Operating hours subject to change.

  5. I have never been to Canada before, but one of my favorite places to visit. With Christmas around, I think there are so many events coming ahead and it is going to be so much of fun!
