The Kitchener Market is 150 years old this year which is cause for celebration. They have a variety of events planned in October to commemorate the occasion. As the Food Revolution KW Ambassadors, we are thrilled to see all great Harvest Foods being celebrated at the Kitchener Market at this time of year! See the list below and be sure to enter the contest at the end of this post.

Harvest Festival presents:
The 150th anniversary of the Kitchener Market
Saturday, Oct. 5 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Kitchener Market has been an important part of community for so many years. Join us as we celebrate the very first dedicated, permanent market structure, built in 1869. There have been multiple locations over the years, and we will celebrate them all with photos and shared memories. There will be fun for everyone and, of course, you can enjoy the Saturday farmers' market during its usual hours of 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Features for the day:
- Extended Food Hall hours: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
- Harvest Foods Cooking with ChefD from 9:30am-11am
- Kids Thanksgiving Signs by Nailed it Nite from 2 – 4 pm Register FEE $10 (registration info to follow) Age 3+
- Corn roast: 3-7 p.m.
- Harvest and Thanksgiving Signs by Nailed it Nite from 5-7 pm Register FEE $10 (registration info to follow) Age 7+
- Licensed area featuring KW Craft Cider and Descendants Beer: 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.
- Cake and refreshments
- Music and family fun too!!

Looking for a family friendly Oktoberfest Event?
Cook Like Oma
Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. - noon
Bring your family to learn how to make schnitzels, pretzels and more, just like Oma makes. Our very own Chef D will be the instructor for this fun and delicious event. Afterwards, see traditional German dancers and enjoy music along with appearances from some of your favourite Oktoberfest mascots!
This is a free event, but we would like to encourage participants to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region

Dinner With The Chef
(demonstration class series)
Dine with our professional chefs in the cozy environment of the Marketplace. Learn tips and tricks from some of the best our area has to offer. Both chefs are local champions of artisan food produce, especially local produce and meat, and their passion for quality, local food and drink is exuberant.
Dinner with Chef D
Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Cost: $50 - register
Northern Italian cuisine is characterized by a lesser use of olive oil, pasta and tomato sauce and a heavier reliance on butter (or lard), rice, corn (for polenta) and cheeses for cream sauces.
Dinner with Chef Scott Yates
Wednesday, Oct 30 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Cost: $50 - register
Join Scott as he cooks the best quality of local meat products. He loves to promote local/regional meat and cheese. He may feature pork, water buffalo, ostrich, goose, rabbit, or perch.
We think Dinner with the Chef will make a great PARENTS' NIGHT OUT! We're so excited that we are giving away a pair of passes to join us there!
