Research Studies @ UofW Contact Lens
Research
Currently the top contact lens research centre
in the world is continuing to accomplish great things through research done
right here at UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO. The studies are non-invasive and all
of our participants are compensated at $20/hr for their time and often get free
contact lenses or glasses. Right they are recruiting 7-11 year olds to
participate in a 3yr study cclr.uwaterloo.ca
Centre for Ocular Research and Education (CORE)
at the University of Waterloo and is recruiting for a new scientific
study (ID: CYPRESS) that examines how to treat nearsightedness in children aged
6-9. Participants will receive up to $690 for 9 visits over 3 years, and
also receive a free pair of spectacle frames to keep.
If you are interested in participating, please

all relevant study information prior to study enrollment and you are under no

Infant Studies Group
If you’re looking for something new and fun to
do with your child, we would love to have you participate in one of our
studies! Help us discover how children learn about language and the world
around them. Typical studies involve a one time, half hour visit. You stay with

Youth Drum and Bugle Corps
Great program for youths in the KWC area.
Our participants come not only from Cambridge, but Waterloo, Kitchener,
Brantford, and surrounding areas as well. We are not the Scouts. We
are not the Army, Navy or Sea Cadets. We are the only Youth Drum and Bugle
Corps in the area!
No experience required and we have a modest membership
fee ($20 per year). We provide a unique musical education program that not only
teaches kids to play music or perform colour guard, we instruct them how to

What: We are an indoor
playground located directly in the church building which opens its doors to our
community to allow a safe and friendly environment.

For
the $5 per adult minimum donation individuals, and any accompanying children,
can come and go as they please to accommodate any rest requirements or specific
nutritional needs.
The
Canada Day in Wilmot Committee looks forward to delivering an exceptional level
of entertainment once again in 2019. Roughly seven-thousand proud Canadians
have enthusiastically come together annually for the past two years to
celebrate Canada’s confederation.
From
8am to 11am, those with a hunger for a unique experience can have ‘Breakfast with
Batman’ upstairs at the New Hamburg Community Centre where locally sourced food
will be prepared by personal Chef Adam Brenner. Thanks to TLC Pet Food this is
a chance to meet the ‘Brampton Batman’ and see his 1980s movie replica
Batmobile in person in the New Hamburg arena. Breakfast prices are; Adults $15,
Kids $5 (6-12yrs), Kids 5 and under free –tickets at the door - cash only.
The
gates for the Canada Day in Wilmot festivities officially open at 1pm where
attendees can take a stroll through the Vendor’s Market featuring various local
businesses and community organizations plus an opportunity to support the New
Hamburg Lioness Club by purchasing an ice cream cone while enjoying live local
music.
At
2pm the opening ceremonies will get underway featuring Olympian Mandy Bujold as
our 2019 Grand Marshal. We hope all in attendance join in to sing along with a
version of O’ Canada performed by Joanna Gustini-Wilkinson and Danielle Gustini
– Crouse that is not to be missed.
Also
open at 2 pm is the Puddicombe House Kids Zone, Wilmot Agricultural Society and
Wilmot 4H Petting Zoo, New Hamburg Optimist Club Food Booth and the New Hamburg
Royal Canadian Legion Beer Garden.
At
2:30 pm free Canada Day cake, sponsored by the Township of Wilmot, will be
served up by local dignitaries and our 2019 Grand Marshal, Mandy Bujold.
Attendees
are encouraged to bring their slice of cake up into the grandstand to enjoy the
first of three Twice the Deal Pizza - New Hamburg FMX Extreme Shows - presented
by Jordan Szoke. These world-class highflying athletes are scheduled to perform
their acrobatic-moto-magic again at 4:40pm and 6:20pm.
MC
Rob Pagetto alongside DJ Habermehl return to help get the party started and
keep the day moving right along while having some fun with the audience.
At
3:15pm kids can join in on the Sweets New Hamburg Pie Eating Contest and a
Cookie Contest that’s always fun to watch and to participate in.
Erick
Traplin will take to the Dolman Eyecare Centre Main Stage at 4 pm at which time
the New Hamburg Board of Trade Duck Dive will take place to make a few lucky
ducks who bought a ticket a little bit richer. Erick will return for a second
performance at 7:45pm.
At
5:35pm Canada’s best cover band ORANGEMAN will take to the Dolman Eyecare
Centre Main Stage for the first of three sets featuring number one hits from
the 70s, 80s, 90s and today. Their second set is scheduled for 7:05pm, and the
third at 8:50pm.
Just
before the New Hamburg Dental Group Fireworks get underway kids should watch
out for a photo-op with a special SUPER guest in the grandstand.
To
wrap up an already jam-packed Canada Day in Wilmot, the New Hamburg Dental
Group Fireworks Spectacular will light up the sky with a memorable professional
pyrotechnic display worthy of our great country.

in Elmira, Woolwich Township
The
Gore Park celebration brings together local dignitaries, businesses,
organizations, and the community.
Elmira
firefighters will be present giving educational demonstrations such as fitting
children in firefighter gear and teaching them the basics of using a hose; the
Elmira Sugar Kings will supply ice cream cones, Woolwich Summer Camp
coordinators offer face-painting along with arts and crafts, the Kiwanis Club
of Elmira will be barbecuing hamburgers and hotdogs.
Volunteers
from Robin in the Hood Festival are doing an interactive show, offering
event-goers plenty of choice as for how to spend the evening. There is also a
Canada Day cake that will be divvied up, the singing of O Canada, and local
dignitaries delivering remarks.
The
event is hosted from 4 to 7 p.m., with a free public swim taking place beforehand
at the WMC from 1 to 3 p.m.

Who's The Cuban? It is not an easy thing to distinguish from the
rest of the band. Who's the Cuban has evolved into a more modern music, mixed
with pop accents and a fusion of styles.
3pm - Richard Garvey (Local) M
ulti-instrumentalist, Richard Garvey's award winning songs explore
the highs and lows of love, injustice, and the marbled mess of the human
condition.
4pm - CLARINET FACTORY (Czech)
Clarinet Factory, formerly Czech Clarinet Quartet, is a Czech
clarinet quartet. Its genres include classical music, jazz, crossover, ethno,
minimalism, electronics, film and theatre music.
5pm - BOZÁ(Colombia)
This musical group from the Colombian Caribbean combines the sound
of bagpipes with electronic elements. Not only do they have an amazing sound,
but Bozá strengthens the Caribbean identity and the bagpipe tradition.
6pm - Ekhaya (Zimbabwe/Local)
Although all Canadians, Ekhaya come together from different
tribes, predominantly Zimbabwe, to weave the sounds of many nations into a
musical tapestry of incredible music.
7pm - Ramon Chicharron (Quebec, CA)
Celebrating his ancestral Afro-Colombian rhythms, Ramon creates a
musical fusion he calls, Cumbia Chicharronica. Ramon's vision is to spread a
message of consciousness while preserving the Afro-Colombian folklore.
8pm - Lucho Quequezana and Banda Kuntur (Peru)
Lucho Quequezana's is an internationally renowned artist whose
unique story transcends his music, based on Andean Peruvian rhythms, into a
youthful playfulness.
9pm - Melisande (Quebec, CA) Mélisande's award-winning music
encompasses century-old traditional Québécois songs, with state of the art
electronic instruments, backed by drums, fiddle, flute, jaw harp, banjo and
bass.
10pm - Newen Afrobeat (Chile)
Newen Afrobeat's music was inspired by their native roots in
Chile, and the pioneer of Afrobeat, Nigerian born, Fela Kuti. This is an
excellent band to dance to.
SUNDAY JULY 14th – VICTORIA PARK
Noon - DJ OonGa (Montreal)
DJ OonGa is the electronic alternate identity of Eli Levinson, a
bass-playing funky monkey living in Montreal, Earth. Originally making music as
part of funk, hip-hop, metal, punk and experimental party bands, Eli started
producing beats in 2010.
1pm - Starlite Steel Drum Band (Local)
Starlite plays Calypso, Reggae, Gospel and Classical music. A
family band, they are comprised of the parents, two daughters and a son.
Starlite has been performing at events in the Waterloo Region for 12 years.
2pm - DIAR (Syria - Toronto)
Diar performs Syrian and Arabic traditional songs with a flamenco
touch to revive the heritage with the use of easy rhythms so everyone can
understand and enjoy the music. Diar – a bridge from their native Syria – to
their new home in Canada.

Reggae recording, Errol Blackwood has been turning out authentic roots rock

Systema Solar, a Colombian dance music group, deftly combines elements
of Afro-Caribbean music, Champeta, Bullerengue and Cumbri to achieve their
high-energy sound.

Roberto Sainz de la Peña brings, Butterflies, his Theater in
Miniature three-minute play designed for one person at a time. A powerful

Laura and Daniela of INNVENTORS three-hour amazing workshop for

FEEL THE MUSIC: Sunday July 14th 12 – 2pm - Walper Hotel - A
concert for the hearing impaired using light and vibration, designed by Grammy

and Canadian Hearing Society, produced by Roberto Sainz. For the Deaf, sound is

Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Wesli built his first guitar from

old. He will be leading an interactive surprise Reggae workshop.
